I had 1 in college and for years afterwards. Best dog I ever owned. Like others said... a big teddy bear. Mine was the runt of the litter because I didn't want a huge dog. She was tall and thin and just an all around great dog.
When my grandfather died, I gave her to my grandmother to keep her company. Mawmaw would still cook for 2 people and just feed the other portion to the dog. It was a win-win for everyone.

Lunchbox.. I had to Doberman's Ringo and Gringo. That was awesome dogs. I know how to raise a dog. Just not sure on the Rottweiler breed. Are they similar to a Doberman?
My rottie gives my 3 month old kisses and follows us any where we take her. He sleeps on the rug in front of her crib and always comes running up whenever she cries.
He's 8 and a half and we've never seen an ounce of aggression from him that wasn't warranted. The only times he's been anything other than a teddy bear are when people let themselves into our house without us there that he didn't know. Other than that, he's an 85lb lap dog. If he didn't shed, he'd be the perfect dog (well, if he also picked up his shite too).

Wasn't he an OG from the streets though?
the streets of Bogota Colombia
but they got him as a puppy, actually a bar they used to go to there was the home to the mom (owners lived on top of the bar)
they had him from 8 weeks old on and i think he was about 3 at the time of the attack

Interesting, because I can verify he isn't.

Cat, my Sister had one and he was a pussy cat...He did not like anyone with a hat though, (not sure where that came from) and if you came through their gate into the back yard and not through the house, it could be trouble. but you could wrestle him, play fetch and tug'o war with a tennis ball. They are really big dogs though...I think Buck was 125-140 lbs...

They are great protectors and love their family, especially children, immensely.
A lot of dick heads raise them to be assholes though.

I know your dad may tell you that the dog did that unprovoked. I also know the likelihood of that is very very small.

Extremely smart, loyal dogs. Can be aggressive if not trained, but an outstanding family dog otherwise.
I had a mix, and he was by far the smartest dog I've ever owned. He was mixed with lab, so that probably helped his trainability and temperament, but he was awesome. He knew all of the normal dog tricks (sit, stay, lay down, roll over, come, etc.), and I also taught him to "use his inside voice" where he would give a muted bark, taught him to "be gentle" where he would take a treat out of your hand as slow and delicate as he could, and he would bark on command with either "speak" which would yield a normal bark, or "LOOK" which would be a more aggressive bark (mostly used this when people came to the door that I didn't want to deal with
).
He was great with our first son, would let him crawl all over him, grab his ears, etc. He even took to "guarding" our son from the new puppy we got towards the end of his life.
He would let a stranger stick their head in his food bowl while he was eating if I told him to be gentle, or he would sit at my feet and growl at that stranger if I told him to "get 'em." Never even came close to hinting at biting me or anyone else. Perfect dog.

IMHO, a doberman is more naturally skittish, while a rottweiler is more naturally dominant

But still less popular than pit bulls

I'm guessing I'm gonna go home and ask if she is sure with the idea of bring home a 100+ lbs dog and tell her she can buy it if she wants

well it may be small, but that doesnt mean it didnt happen, the dog was already on the bed and my dad sat down on the bed to get in and thats when he attacked. my mom was right there as well, the whole thing happened in a matter of seconds. im guessing he figured the bed was his spot

The dog had a big crush on his mom and was always trying to be dominant. Like I posted earlier, he tried to bite me when I wouldn't let him hump my leg. Their next dog was much better
