Tom228. Hey totally understand we've owned Dobies and German Shepherds. She has wanted a rottie for some time. I just don't know enough about the breed. That's why I came here. He is a reputed breeder. They are a working line. He uses them for bite training. That's why I wasn't sure about getting one from him

I currently have a 2 year old male. This is my third Rottweiler, and of all three he is definitely the sweetest and goofiest. They are not a breed for everyone. As has been mentioned it takes a firm, confident person to bring out the best in this breed, but it is highly worth it.
They are by far the best dog I have ever experienced. What sets them apart from the other dogs IMO is their communication ability. They are very emotive dogs if one can understand them. They lock eyes and seek to understand more than any other breed I've owned and been around(Labs, Danes,Shepards).
Socialization and Expectation are the keys to raising and maintaining a happy Rottie. They also demand activity and play- so be up for that or get another breed. They will continue to be strong willed forever, you just have to be stronger and consistent. Amazing family dogs and wonderful with children when properly trained and supervised.

Thanks everyone I made my decision. We will get one. But not from the neighbors brother. We will do some homework and find the right breeder. Does anyone have a starting point?

Whichever breeder you choose- make sure you can go and visit with the Sire and the Dam. I knew after watching and evaluating my current pup's parents I was confident in the choice.

I have owned many breeds from large German Shepards to small breed lapdogs that the ole lady wanted. My last dog was a fufu lapdog and was great and my best friend. My current rottie is the BEST dog I have owned hands down. No comparison. Don't buy from the litter your looking into. Seek a reputable breeder and visit with all the pups. My girl actually picked me. I was leaning toward a male that as a pup was a beast but she came up to me and it was game over. Also as others have suggested socialize the hell out of your pup. I had mine in a loud bar with a rock band playing when she was 8 months old. Finally and this might be difficult but for the first 2 weeks they only human my pup knew was me. We created a strong bond out the gate then I introduced her to the rest of the family. Tl;dr…pick a good breeder and pup, socialize them well and you will have the best dog you have ever owned. Good luck. You will need it. They are stubborn. Haha.

Forgot to tell you. When your ready I'd be more than happy to get my breeders info and pass it along to you. Not sure if they currently have a litter available. They will interview and evaluate you and your family situation and then will decide if they will sell you a pup.

Thank you Lester! That is another important point about this breed. As a pup feed them and while they are eating take away their food. Do this for the first couple of months. Also stick you hand in their bowl while they eat. Essentially screw with them to determine if they have food aggression. If they do correct the behavior while they are pups.
