At risk of nerding out to the point that no one knows what I’m talking about: Scadriel in the first parts of the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson.

True. But apparently beautiful whores are everywhere and employing their services is not frowned upon so it’s an acceptable trade off IMO.

The one set up by Cormac McCarthy's The Road is abysmal. I can't think of many worse.

Exactly. And it's not just the scary/depressing breakdown of society.

It's the fact that other than humans, effectively everything else is DEAD. No fish, no livestock, no game, no crops, no trees. And it's not coming back. No new crops of corn, apples or berries. No chickens and no eggs. No new litters or broods of animals to hunt and eat.

Despite the novel having this underlying theme and ending of hope, you know that it's only a matter of time before it's completely game over.

The Upside Down in Stranger Things doesn’t seem like a very pleasant place.

While pretty bad...there are far worse. There was actually order (for good reason).

Still pretty shitty though.

Sure, there was a reason, but still, a fricking awful paradigm in which to live

The one where the president is a former reality tv star who makes fun of handicapped people and women. Which is ironic because he's basically handicapped and a woman.

If you want an even worse iteration of that, read Brandon Sanderson's Steelheart series. It's basically DC, but everyone with superpowers is a true psychopath

The world Bruce Willis came from in 12 Monkeys.

ETA: The world in Children of Men. Idiocracy would be fun. Won't have to wait long for that.
