My parish has too many paid positions. What happened to getting retired folks to volunteer?

buddy of mine is one of those private client bankers. He’s got this mega-church preachers as a client. The preacher buys 300 acres in Mississippi, waits 6 months, then the church buys the land from him for 10x what he paid to build a church retreat facility.
That's some shady shite right here.
I believe there is corruption in all churches but I haven't seen any at my church here. It's non-denominational and I used to have a bad opinion of these churches. I'm sure it goes on and there is a whole lot that I don't know, but the amount of good this church does in the community is undeniable.

If you serve on the church personnel committee or finance committee you will encounter the interesting side of the church. Lol

The whole thing is strange to me. I’ve never understood, even when I was a chap.
When I was in hs, preacher man was banging a married lady that weren’t his wife.

When I lived in BR, 12 years ago, my old church parish was known to deny active parishioners kids admission to its school.
I’m lucky we had our child after moving outta Louisiana.
Yeah, I’m talking about you St. Jude.

My church has this odd relationship with Clemson football. Not sure what to make of it.

Avoiding required daily use logs to document milage reimbursement as a federal tax free compensation. Amounted to 15-20 per cent of base pay. A few back calculations revealed pastor spent most of his time driving.

Freaking Southern Baptist
Left the SBC 20 years ago. If you are looking to find deeper spirituality study Buddhism, Hinduism or esoteric Christianity. About the last place you will touch authentic spirituality is in church. It’s a religious social club.

Unfortunately this is how I saw it as well. I was naive enough to believe it had a deeper goal but at the end of the day it's mainly about meeting people and just having community. Depending on what denomination you're in, you don't have to be very spiritual at all.

As they should. Salvation is for sinners, the church has a responsibility to help shepherd them away from sin and into God’s will. There are many people that are legitimately blind to their sins.
Do Protestants in the Deep South really believe this, though? I think most of their churches are actually Calvinist, meaning that the "saved" are actually predetermined by God. They further believe that you can spot the "saved" by observing their lives. They are the successful, right-acting people.
Once I realized these facts, small rural Protestant churches made more sense to me. They basically think they're God's nobility, and the rest of us are heathens who deserve our lot in life merely because of who we were born as.

Southern Baptist is by far the largest non-catholic denomination in the South, but I find the more rural you get, the more Landmarkism becomes the dominate doctrine.

Head priest goes through the 10 items or less aisle with 11 items.

I’m sure some churches do but none that I’ve been to preach this. Focusing on predestination or predetermination isn’t something most southern Baptist churches focus on. It’s hard to grasp, easily misunderstood and divisive. SB churches focus a lot on the Great Commission, which gives us clear instructions to go out and make disciples. We can’t fulfill the GC by isolating ourselves proclaiming everyone else is going to hell.
