Seriously - I have a profile because in college everyone said you needed one. I have no clue what the frick the point is five years later.

For non-important people to feel important.

So recruiters can share memes about how difficult it is to be a recruiter.

Source of material for ridicule when professionals get arrested for ignominious bullshite and think they are safe by taking down their Facebooks.

I get an interview offer through LinkedIn at least 5-6 times per year.

Its supposedly designed to keep you in contact with connections based on your fellow alumni and job experience.

It also serves as a job board.

But the problem is that most companies have their own in-house pool which they prefer.

Also the website has become too "socialized" in order to mimic facebook and other media.

I got my current job through a recruiter reaching out to me on LinkedIn. It's actually pretty great for my industry.

I have hired 4 people that I have found on linked in. Also, I have found 3 diff vendors off LinkedIn and doing hundreds of thousands of dollars with said vendors now that started off with an invite. It works.

It is very useful to me. I sell commercial concrete to General Contractors and concrete subcontractors. A lot of people who work for those companies post about projects they were recently awarded. If I quoted a job to several GCs and/or subs I will know who got it without all of the traditional steps of finding out that info and I know who is getting a call that day or the next morning.

Also, I use it to get a preview of someone I am meeting in person for the first time. Where they went to college, what company they worked at before to see if we might know some of the same people, etc.. I can easily find common ground without it and still do most of the time buts it's nice to have a little background when you can get it.

I think it depends on what you do for a living. It is useful in construction sales for sure.

If you take your profile seriously and make it look nice you will get hits. I love my job but I never know what the future holds so I maintain my profile to keep myself out there.

That said, my feed when I open linkedin is littered with cheesy quotes and pictures, and they're usually posted by people who I know are basket cases.

I'm trying to figure out how to use for a job board but it seems worthless for entry level jobs or if you don't already know anyone.

It's for admin assistants to post opinionated shite or for older, lower level men to post political shite. Eventually someone with a real job gets triggered, responds, and gets fired.

I couldn’t figure out the point. Ended up with too many weird people adding me (like a coworker of my BF’s ex wife who hates me, and a guy I briefly dated), so I deleted it.
