So between you and H2OTiger, we're confirming that American Karens are the wrong people to have as in laws?

Shocked. French seem to be Irish adjacent, but they talk to strangers less. I'm sure I'd sit at a café with your FIL and have a great time.

Ex-in laws, I don't expect them (especially Latino) to do anything but believe anything their daughter says. It's expected, but disappointing considering they'd known me for over a decade. Oh well. What are you gonna do?

I feel more embarrassed that my ex and her mother don't understand how bad what they're doing looks to my kids' peers, but there's not much I can do about it.

My wife is estranged from her family, so no relationship needed.

We were out at dinner a few weeks ago, wife's grandmother came in town to visit and, all of a sudden, there's a bunch of animated chatter in Russian. I know about 4 words of it so I wasn't paying attention but apparently they were all having an argument about when we are gonna have kids.

I was just sitting there sipping wine, sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Mother in law and me didn't really get along at first ,but as my German improved and her having to lean on me alot for helping her getting our properties in order, dealing sith tenants, doing construction, handling contractors and dealing with personal medical issues now we are pretty good. Having the full language barrier at first and a few cultural differences and she was born during the war it is just a different generation. The one thing that would annoy the shite out of me is she would pop in unannounced and she had her own key. That is something more common here with the older people. Now she doesn't do it but she would call first. My father in law was a good man and we never had any problems. He passed almost 5 years ago due to a heart attack.

That's correct. My first wife was American. I won't make that mistake again.

MIL - Just moved in with us. Wonderful woman. Stage 4 cancer. My wife and I are insuring her quality of life is the best it can be for her remaining time on this rock floating in space. Her and I get along great.

FIL is greedy as hell. If I borrow a gallon of gas to mow my lawn, he's at my house in the next few days to collect on his $3. This is a man who makes over double what my wife and I make combined. He also tips horribly.

MIL tries to control her grown arse children like their still living under their roof.

Other than that, they're ok. They aren't breaking any records or anything.

When mine got older my wife wanted to keep them out of the nursing home so I paid for 24/7 care in their home for four years. Cost just for home care was about $110k a year. I finally told my wife this was crazy and we had to place them in a home. Waiting for Medicaid system to kick in cost me another $60k.

My wife passed away while they were in the home so I continued to visit and provide for them medically. My MIL passed 6 months after my wife and my FIL 3 months after his wife.

I think it is safe to say I loved and cared for them tremendously and miss them, especially my MIL.

My SIL who never helped financially or even with their care after my wife passed away can ESAD.

They call me their son. Good people who do anything anyone asks. I have to keep them at arms length because they ask a little too much at times.

I had a better relationship with my fil than my dad. While both were hardworking men, my fil taught me that a dad should hug his kids and tell them you love them. At my dad's funeral, I realized those words had never been exchanged between us. My mil is a fat lazy pos, as well as one bil and sil. They all share the house and expect the good Sil, good bil, and my wife and I to take care of them. They don't even wNt to mow their own grass. Just last night a group text was going about mil's house needing to be leveled, new roof, bunch of plumbing re-done, and how the whole family (not including the dead beats) should pay for it. My wife's idea is for them to sell the house as-is, and rent a frickn apartment forever, so we don't have to take care of their shite for the next several Years! I told my wife that was the best damned idea she has ever had. I didn't marry her so I could support her deadbeat mil, bil, sil ! And my mom was always a bitch to my wife, so I don't talk to her much anymore either.

I wouldn't even frick with the old bastard if that's how he acts.

I don't play the kiss arse game. My MIL couldn't understand that for years but over time she grew to respect it. Now we are pretty good. She's the type that always wants her arse kissed, but she knows it's not coming from me

My wife's parents are divorced so here's what we have:

Her dad, can't stand the guy. When I first met him it was about marrying my wife and wedding plans. She and I were living together at the time. He asked her if she was going to wear a white dress. I almost came unglued and wanted to choke the life out of him and have never forgotten 31 years later. What father implies his own daughter is a ho. Also, he cheated on my wife's mom with the step mom, got no respect for that.

Her step mom, one of the fakest phoniest people I have ever met.

Her mom, really nice lady but is full of negative energy.

Her step dad, cool dude, I work for him.

They hid and protected a pedo while allowing countless unsupervised children around him. So, it’s not good.
