How to not be intimidated. My dad is by far more intimidating than anyone else I’ve ever encountered. I’m not talking physically.

Don't bring problems forward unless you have a proposed solution. It may not be correct but at least it shows you are working on it.

Also, taught me to tell people "no" without actually saying the word. Lead them to the solution/ realization you want while making it seem like it was their idea.

He was never maliciously manipulative, but his lessons have really helped me out in the professional role I am in now.

Respect elders. That, in turn, has translated to respecting all at my age. Firm handshake. Open doors for girls/women. Say yes/no ma'am and sir. Sounds simple but it seems like most folks are animals these days that have lost the value of respect.

My pops always told me, "trust your gut. It's almost never wrong."

If you have a feeling or sense that something is off, it probably is.

Lastly, if you start something then you finish it.

Divorce is worth it. Learned from observation but man it took a long time for that lesson to sink in.

Knot tying.

It frustrates me when I see a grown man that can’t at least tie a bowline knot.

2) Do it right the first time so you don't have to do it twice

Do it right the first time. If you screw up, face your mistakes and fix them

Plus—Don’t drive the truck between two trees unless you very carefully measure the space between the trees first.
