people even placed Richard McElveen at the murders of Pam and Eric Ellender in 1991. This was all pre and emerging internet in a small town so rumors ruled.

Where I'm from the most famous crime has to be the Springfield Three. Three women disappeared in 1992 after some graduation parties. They vanished.

In northern Missouri, it's got to be the murder of Ken McElroy the bully of Skidmore, Mo. Town had enough of him and he was shot at least twice with over 40 witnesses...who didn't see a thing. FBI called in and still, nobody saw the shooter. Many years later in the same small town, a woman killed a pregnant woman and took her baby. The place is cursed.

LINK

Genevieve Zitricki in 1990. Not far from where I live. The murder itself was big local news, but the animal that killed her is going to end up being one of the most prolific in history. They have just recently linked him to the Yogurt Shop Murders, and new links are still coming in for cold cases.

In New Orleans, I'd go with the UpStairs Lounge Fire that killed 49 people in the summer of 73. It was a popular gay bar in the French Quarter.

Nah. In NOLA it has to be the Axeman

For my area, which was very rural Louisiana, we had a trashy, meth family that lived about 1 mile away from our house. They caused us all kinds of problems in my childhood, from stealing our 4-wheeler, starting fires on our property, peeping Tom, etc.

Well one of the brothers murdered his girlfriend and dumped her body in the woods behind our house.

So I just remember all the police and dogs searching for her body for like a week.

I got in trouble for sneaking around the woods trying to watch/help the search.

Megan Sharpton murder. Not wildly famous, but happened in my hometown and I was a classmate of her mother. I believe Oxygen and a few others did docs on her case. She was sweet girl just beginning to figure her life out, would have been a great nurse just like Holly Bobo.

First person to get life selling for selling cocaine and/or crack was doing it maybe 200 yards from where my little league practice occurred almost 40 years later i still question coach dad for that life choice.

I was born and raised in East L.A. I was very young, but I remember the fear my mom and my aunts all felt during Richard Ramirez's killing spree. He was caught not too far from where I grew up.

Mario Gioe, a co-owner of the popular Rocky & Carlo's restaurant in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, was murdered in 1983. He was shot execution-style and left on the side of a road in what was initially framed as a robbery. Convicted killer Earl Smith received three life sentences for the crime.

Key Details Regarding the Incident:
Victim: Mario Gioe, a Sicilian immigrant who co-founded the restaurant in 1965 with his brother-in-law, Rocky Tommaseo.
Date of Murder: 1983.
Conviction: Earl Smith was convicted of the murder and served time at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.
Legacy: Despite the tragedy, Rocky & Carlo's continued operation and remains a landmark in Chalmette, Louisiana.

The case gained renewed attention in 2019 due to parole considerations for the convicted killer, which the victim's family strongly opposed.

There weren't many murders in my actual small hometown. Maybe one when I was growing up but there were a few since then.

One guy I went to HS was beaten and left on a road over drugs but the one I always think of was three guys murdering John Mayeaux.

Three Arrested in Beauregard Murder

quote:

A murder mystery of a Ragley man has been solved. The Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office says they've arrested three men in connection with the murder of 56-year-old John Mayeaux. He's the man who was found dead wrapped in a tarp in his yard last week.

Arrested were 27 year-old James Ramsdell, 47-year-old Terry Clarkson and a 15-year-old male. Officials say the 15-year-old confessed to being with Ramsdell and Clarkson last Tuesday at Mayeaux's home, when they shot and killed Mayeaux, then took several items from his property including a pistol, rifles and shotguns, generator, air compressor, welding machine, four wheeler and money.

According to investigators the teen told them the items were take to 2383 Texas Eastern Road in Ragley. After searching that property, they found Ramsdell and several of the stolen items. They also learned the murder weapon was buried there as well.

Ramsdell was taken into questioning as was Clarkson, who was located at his home in Westlake.

Authorities say both men admitted to being at Mayeaux's property when he was shot. They've both been booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail, each charged with first degree murder, conspiracy to commit first degree murder, aggravated burglary, and theft of firearms, theft (felony), and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Meanwhile, the unidentified teen was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to first degree murder as well as theft of firearms and felony theft. He's been transferred to a Juvenile Detention Center.

I was a realtor in 2003 and listed a house for sale for Mr Mayeaux, so I knew him and he was a strange dude who was always selling his possessions.

He was having an estate sale on his 20 acres and 3 dudes murdered him for money and wrapped his body in a tarp in his barn. They never found the money because it was hidden in an RV in a cookie jar so they just stole stuff.

The teen who was involved was basically mentally retarded and walked back home to Westlake after the murders because he was scared and alleges he was pressured into being involved
