Eh, about half or more no longer exist due to buyouts/mergers, like the car dealer, the finance companies, the bank. Merged/sold and forgotten. The food places are just kinda the nature of those, small businesses that fold when the owner retires/dies. The ladies clothing went under due to the nature of fashion and style and what's trendy, and it was a Mall based overall marketing strategy. Malls died, styles changed, what's Hot and Not changed, poof! They're gone. (The Limited is who it was) The collection agency was due to illegal big time finance spearheaded by a former FDIC bank examiner playing fast and loose with a new type of packaging of finance that resulted in a larger bankruptcy than Enron money wise. The old hospital was timing. 1st time ever in debt to revamp and go state-of-the-art surgery was immediately prior to the economic collapse which also altered the clientele base as insurance industry changed at about the same time further altering the financial situation. Without the housing crash ripples it would still be in business. The small surgery center chain was a prime example of letting personal politics get in the way of business. Top management swore that Obamacare would never go into effect. Once it did they were doomed due to setting up their finances and operations based on the presumption about Obamacare.
Like I said, that is a lot of bad luck. If I see you at the craps table I am betting Don't Pass and Don't Come all day.
It's not personal, just business.

worked the same job for my first 6 years of college. 6 years later my best friends are still people I worked with there. I don't regret leaving but I do miss the hell out of it.

Going on 21 years. I'll be ecstatic to walk out the door in 7 more.

Gong on 27 ate my current job and will probably hang it up in 2.
I have really enjoyed this job and I know that I will be sad to leave.
But it is time to retire and enjoy life in a different way.

13 years I was a hard decision but the right one.

3 years
If I haven't been promoted or moved up after three years it's time to move to a company that affords me better opportunities

What is the longest you have worked the same job?
quote:Pissed at the sorriest management EVER.
And how did you feel when you left?
My boss and his boss have both been fired 2 years after I left and H.R. manager transferred.

Army - 23 years. Fortunately, there was a change of scenery and co-workers every once in a while.
