I typically build my PCs, and just upgrade components when necessary. I’ve got an AMD bulldozer that I use for playing with old systems in VirtualBox.

It’s interesting that several people in this thread have desktops that are functional after 10+ years. I think that’s a statement about the rate of technology change slowing down.

Same here for me. Best and longest computer I've ever owned. Upgraded the RAM a long time ago, but the perfect at home/surfing the internet computer with no real reason to replace it.

AST bought at an AST auction in 1993. I had to install a hardrive into it. Those were the Cadillacs of PC at the time.

My parents had a Gateway that would NOT die.
Speaking of Gateway, I found my old printed receipt I had for my first real desktop machine I bought back in July 2000. It's hilarious to see what I configured as the top of the line available specs then, and the cost for it. Looks like I made the hard drive SMALLER down to 20g because even though I was using it for graphic design work I didn't think I needed the size!

Back page listed the sweet arse 100MB external zip drive.

I have a desktop at work that is a 2005 Dell and still working. There are many things you can't do on it, but it works good enough for what I need it to do.

Got a new HP desktop when I started a job in 2008. Still running fine, although I’ve upgraded its memory and swapped for an SSD along the way.
Single best upgrade I’ve ever done was switching to SSD in all my devices 6-8 years ago.

Anyone who actually uses tech will take a desktop over a tablet or phone 100% of the time.
Anyone who understands that the internet is more than social media and apps likely still has a desktop where they spend a solid amount of time if they need to actually do anything online

I just put a SSD upgrade kit from OWC and maxed out the RAM in my late 2015 27" imac.
It is literally better and faster than new.
Highly recommend but I don't think a 2012 will be able to get on the latest MacOS.

I had a desktop as a kid that worked consistently from 1990 to 2004. It still ran, then, but we had replaced it with something slightly more upgraded, lol.
