Jevons Paradox suggests that when technological advancements increase the efficiency of a resource (in this case, computational power for AI training and inference), the demand for that resource may paradoxically increase rather than decrease, as lower costs drive greater adoption and usage. This was noted in analyses suggesting that DeepSeek’s efficiency breakthroughs could lead to skyrocketing demand for AI applications, potentially offsetting the reduced need for compute per model and sustaining or even increasing investments in AI infrastructure.
It proliferates - it becomes cheaper - it proliferates - …
Like I asked earlier, does that ultimately result in a crash?

What does society gain from these massive data centers?
Why are we pouring so much time, energy, and money into building these massive structures?
Scruffy would like to know.
We are in the middle of a great tech reset. The same way I haven't Yahoo'd anything in decades. Don't use the Lycos retriever. Don't check up on my friends on Myspace. Haven't gotten any music from Napster lately. Within the next year I don't think anyone with Google anything either.
All of the big boys have watched in the past that there usually is only one big winner in the information space. And we are watching the most expensive race ever.

You seem kinda tarded for a “doctor”

Because we don’t have Sophons yet

Because I don’t know the ins and outs of the data center boom?
I can live with that.

Who are they receiving their funds from?
Use cases are almost limitless. Here's another:

Sandwiches are solid, as are burgers. Can't yet speak to the chicken.

FYI, that's pronounced Ray-vul. I learned that while passing through once upon a time.

water is used in DC for inline cooling to keep the server room cool. The equipment puts out a lot of heat and have to be kept cool.

Man, after getting a firsthand view of what AI can do with construction estimating, there's going to be a bunch of companies that invest in cloud based and AI computing capabilities to improve productivity in all industries. That might put some people out of a job, but that's where everything is heading. Better learn a trade my whitecollared brethren.

Eventually coordinate and control society. Most real "work" will occur in data centers. We will be gig workers.
