They were much better supplied and about 25% of the total 2 million+ that served on the Federal side were immigrants. About 9% in the Southern army. At the end the North had somewhere closer to 1 million active, The Confederacy something like 200k.

They went to camp for training, and were trained soldiers just like the all the rest. Definitely a smaller percentage but you can bet some of the Confederate Army's soldiers were foreign-born immigrants. Primarily consisting of Irish, English, German , along with Mexican Texans and Hispanics.

Much like the Viet Kong, the South could have held out until Americans grew sick of war. Had Lincoln not moved Grant east, he probably loses the 1864 election without Grants successful strategy for the Union cause. If McCleland wins, a peace deal would have been brokered and the CSA would have survived, permitting slavery to persist.

McCleland
—McClellan had no chance against Lincoln even w/o Grant’s move to the east. The Dems in the North were a minority and in the northern public’s eye, connected to the southern Dems.

By 1864 The South had already stretched out the war beyond what it could handle.
But it’s fun to speculate.

So you don’t celebrate the 4th of July?

That probably sounded so very smart in your head. Celebrating the civil war in the USA is the equivalent of celebrating the 4th of July in England. I doubt the Brit’s have any statues of American Revolutionary War soldiers and generals around England.

Why thank you, it sounded incredibly smart in my head. The person that I responded to said traitors shouldn’t be celebrated. That is exactly who we celebrate on the 4th of July. That should not be real difficult to understand.
