Pour some gas on it. And run.

Kerosene in a pump sprayer. Don't actually light it. It will kill them on contact. If you must kill them, anyway.
ETA: Do it late evening or just after dark.

I found 3 underground nests in my first year and a half in Folsom. Found the first one without incident, second one 6 of those bastards nailed me, third time only 1 got me. I learned to hit them at night or late evening when they are inactive - foaming wasp spray works great because it shoots far and they can’t take flight through the foam. Follow up with a little gasoline for good measure. Best to wear protective gear - whatever you have on hand.

Well if you're like my dad, a pump sprayer, an Isuzu truck and a cracked window. Must drive in a circle.
He put so much gas down there he had 4 ft worth of flames coming out that hole.
Goodluck

kill it with fire is the preferred method for me (gas).
But, if you are opposed to this vinegar works too. Just need a bunch... has to come into contact with the yellow jackets.
Supposedly destroys their exoskeleton. So you will be doing something akin to skinning them alive instead of gassing them or burning them alive.

Dry ice chips followed with hot soapy water.

They aren’t as aggressive as I expected. The nest in that pic above, I was weedeating literally within a foot of the nest and only only got hit once - didn’t see them til it was too late. I would have thought I’d get swarmed being that close. Once I knew they were there, you could walk right up to them and they didn’t care. I hit that nest with spray during the day for shits and giggles, which was stupid because dozens of stragglers kept coming back. If you do it at night, with a spotlight you can see them sitting right inside the entry to the hole but none are flying around. That’s when a can of foaming spray will wipe out the whole nest.

Put a piece of scrap screen on top of the hole at night. Pour your choice of kill liquid down the hole (dish washing liquid and water, Bifen, kerosene, etc.)
If you have the desire to light a flammable liquid, OT rules require that a video must be posted the next morning.

Wear a headlight with a red lense, they can’t see it.I went to spray a yellow jacket nest with a regular white headlight. One of them flew at the light and stung me in the corner of my eye.
