I went to Glacier National park in northwestern Montana last year. It was fantastic.

Not saying Colorado isn’t great but most people forget the entire state east of Denver is basically Kansas.

To be best for outdoor recreation needs variety... I think California has to be the winner. North Carolina has variety too from the outer banks to the Smokeys.

It is flat in eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, eastern Colorado, western Utah and parts of California as well. Not sure what makes them any different than the other intermountain states.

New Hampshire and Maine are nice. Warm enough for hiking, swimming, water skiiing in the summer. Good hunting and fishing. Cross country and downhill skiing in the winters.
