The winter is the one drawback I think. You get so little sunlight, just a coupe hours, and the snow conditions aren’t great on the coast. You get warm periods, and rain. You’re also looking at lower verticals, and you need to hire a helicopter to reach the good terrain.
It is truly wild and dangerous though.

I'm gonna catch some shite for this one but I think Alabama is very underrated for outdoor recreation and natural beauty.

Some of the National Parks in Cali are pretty hard to get to. Yosemite is a no joke in get in/out of. Plus it is WAYYYY too crowded. I think that is a major downside for California, just so many damn people.

Definitely Colorado, Utah, Oregon, Washington. Cali is nice but they have more popular trails so a bit harder to find solitude. Montana and Idaho are nice but per capita the first 5 states are better. Lot of flatness in montana and Idaho. The trails are easier to access in Washington, Oregon, and Utah. The mountains are pretty far from the major metros in California
I’ve heard VT and NH and upstate NY are also amazing but never been.
TN, NC, VA are nice but nowhere near the West states.

Hey, it's only $1,347 per acre.
I was just using that listing as an example of how beautiful and hospitable the land is. It would be an awesome location for a private recreation area.

Edit: It’s California, no question. Give me Utah second, but things get debatable at that point with CO, AK, WA, etc
California has everything, but the crowded criticism is legit. I’ll just say the desert is underrated and Trinity Alps is a nice mountain spot with smaller crowds. Yosemite is a zoo, SEKI is fantastic but that JMT corridor is full of people. If you have the skills to get off trail...
