Why and what are you trying to cover? Also, money board is probably better.

If you want anything more than just say $25,000 to cover burial and end of life costs it’s likely going to be very expensive.

You need to find yourself an independent and reputable life insurance agent. By independent, I mean a life agent who is not Jake with State Farm or Flo with Progressive.

You mention he isn’t doing great. If he has health issues, you definitely don’t need to make this decision based off products people on a message board throw out at you.

If possible, he needs to go through underwriting to try and get immediate coverage. If you go with a “no questions asked, everyone’s accepted” product, he’s gonna get put on a two-year wait period and you might end up paying a lot more for less coverage. And, if he dies in the first two years, the benefit won’t pay out and you might get a return of premium.

What is the goal of this policy ? To cover risk or leave you guaranteed money ? If he wants to give you money in case he dies during a certain period, then more affordable term life with a higher face value. If he wants to leave you a small sum no matter when he dies, whole life would suffice. One has the advantage of higher face value over a smaller term ( 10 or 15 years ) and the other has the advantage of paying a smaller amount no matter when he dies.

All have mandatory 2 year wait periods and $9.95/month will get only $1,000. Even if your friend is unhealthy, he may qualify for immediate coverage. I work with nearly 15 different companies that specialize in this. Seriously, email me if you want the information.
