I don’t like the ones with the weird fender wells.

Looks like a station wagon.

4th gen 06-09 preferably with the v8 engine

they have the most power to weight ratio

3rd gens are ok but with weaker engines

I had a third and really wanted a first. The third has o2 sensor issues and a tendency to kill cats. But they are one of the easiest running engines ever. Simple old 0w40 will get you 10-15k mile oil changes no problem.

I bought a first, not for me. The stick is uncomfortable to drive in that platform. It begs for a 3.4 swap with an auto. Sold it and got a 1.5 gen xterra.

I test drove a 15 earlier...and it's just too nice for me to thrash it like a 4runner. They just need to gut the interior and put a metal bumper from and rear with a good approach angle.

The 4runner needs the xterra or blazer back. It needs something to keep it grounded in an off-road mentality.

Jeep doesn't cut it.

3rd then 2nd Gen. Wouldn't bother with the rest. Sure as hell wouldn't one with a 2UZ-FE in it.

Some of those 90s versions really stood the test of time. I was driving today and wondering if the new ones would. They look really nice.

2. I bought one with 196,000 miles when it was ~ 8-9 y.o. It lasted another 90,000 miles. My fav vehicle I’ve ever driven

I’ve had the ‘87, 99, and 2007.

I wish they’d make the new body style with a top you can remove like the one on the ‘87.
