$1000 Happy's bar tab that I had to use in one night.

ETA: It was the night before the St. Patty's day parade, so my crew and I had decided to take it easy. Then I hit them with the good news.

A Frozen Turkey. I was mid-twenties at the time. What the hell was I supposed to do with that?

I’m due.

I almost won a brand new truck at a golf tournament a few years ago. I had just started to get into golf too so I really wasn’t that good at it, but it was a short par 3, so I pulled out the 3 wood and came about 10 feet short from hitting the ball into the hole. I’m pretty young so maybe I’ll get lucky one day and win something

About 10 years ago I used to subscribe to a vintage motorcycle/chopper magazine. That July they put on a motorcycle show in North Carolina and gave a motorcycle away to a subscriber, but you had to be present to win. They pulled a guy, he wasn't there, pulled my name, I wasn't there, and the third guy they pulled won it. I didn't even know this had happened, attended a motorcycle show the magazine put on in South Dakota in August and when I got home my new issue, with an article on the event was waiting for me. So if the giveaway had been at the event in South Dakota I'd have been there. I emailed them and they ended up sending me about $500 worth of crap, some jackets, shirts, etc. So I won but I lost.

ETA: My wife, girlfriend at the time, when she was broke and in college had me give her $10 for a raffle ticket her sister was selling. She ended winning 52 $100 gift cards to various restaurants all over Lafayette. You'd be surprised how long it takes to blow through $5200 in restaurant gift cards, it took us nearly 5 years before we finally finished them off.

Won a nice Callaway Odyssey White Hot 2 ball putter in a golf tournament raffle. Had to take it to the golf shop to exchange it for the lefty version. Won some music from an internet radio show. Aztec Jade- Paradise Lost and the Devin Townsend Band- Accelerated Evolution. The Aztec Jade disc is pretty lousy but I'm a lifelong Devin fan after winning that album.

My dad won 2 separate raffles at an LSU baseball game in the 90s.

They were a football with about 15 HOF NFL players autographed and a basketball with about 10 or 12 HOF basketball players autographs.

The fans were pissed when the same name was pulled the second time

Won a liquor basket at our kids' school gala. Probably worth about 400 bucks. Had a serious amount of premium liquor in it. Best prize ever...

Another was Jack Daniel's did a promotional birthday party back in the early 2000s where you had an open bar with a surprise band at HOB. Won two tickets from KKND. Surprise band turned out to be Better Than Ezra. Got shite faced on free Jack, and went home with a ton of Jack schwag...

Directly? Probably a boom box back in the day that I kept for years. Quality model back in the mid 80s when cassettes where still a big deal. That was from a raffle and, at that time, was probably worth a few hundred bucks.

Indirectly? My kids caused my mother to win a prize worth thousands thanks to them wanting to get some stuff to color. Buying it got her an entry into a contest for the facility’s anniversary, which she won, resulting in a family membership to the facility, a trip, a free birthday party for one of the kids, etc.

1st place trophy at skate galaxy for boy scouts over 20 years ago. I wouldnt say its the best, but I remember it very well. Went against like 15-20 other kids and dominated. I won a little golden wheel trophy that was obviously just painted with gold paint, but I tell people its real gold if they ask.

If you are only going to win once, that one was a damn good one.

I used to work a job where I was paid to sit and wait for the phone to ring and contact drivers if there were questions about deliveries. I had all day sometimes with nothing to do so I began entering contests right and left. Never won a car or anything but I won a PlayStation, $100 cash from Chase and tons of other small things. The best overall was a promotion Coca Cola had going. You didn’t have to buy a coke to enter as that would be gambling so you could enter 5 times a day. It was an instant win thing so you clicked the link and you either won or didn’t. I probably won $500 in $25 gift cards (cash, like a Visa card) and at least that much in movie tickets.

Well that was definitely when Metallica was good. Not sure Queensryche had peaked with Mindcrime by then.

I like their older stuff but Mindcrime and Empire are better.
