Zipper is a fraud. No additional cars get thru a congested area by using zipper as opposed to one single lane.

Somehow if that water would just zipper at the restriction it wouldn’t overflow. Stupid water

People don’t understand the left lane. You expect too much.

Ask the same people who need to board the plane first or stand as soon as it lands.

For some people, they just hate when someone is in front of them.

This is why I cannot wait for all of our cars to have AI talking to each other. We cannot overcome stupid drivers on our own. Bring on the singularity

Zipper merge will never work when there is a lot of traffic. Early merging would work great if everyone drove the maximum speed limit.

Is the zipper merge effectively used anywhere in the world?

It works where you go from 4 lanes to 2 lanes of traffic and the speed limit is the same. Or 6 lanes down to 4.

Never, ever, ever works when reducing to one lane and drop in speed

What if you pour the water slower??
That way the water molecules can zipper in as they are supposed to?

And as an aside, if you are in the merge lane and don’t let the merge car in, you deserve to go to hell. It’s a one-and-one concept.

You answered your question here. Assholes don’t like to let people in where it merges

My uncle as a kid zipped his nuts up after swimming in the midwest. Why I needed to be told that when I was under 10 years old, I don't know. However, I do always secure the berries appropriately as a result.

You were warned probably a mile in advance, on an interstate, what was going to happen. You kept yapping to your wife or replying to an email. We're all supposed to anticipate how little you're paying attention to obvious signage for hundreds of yards, when you do absolutely nothing to plan your merge until you have 20 yards of lane left?

Ask people that run up in the left or right lane to expect you to let you in when they passed 20 cars to do it, its the worst in construction zones, people move into the proper zone lane and the small diks run up and try to cut in and get pissed when you won't let them.

Those same penially deficient people are the ones that try to block merging cars, then get passed again as soon as the road opens back up

It's also worth noting that stacking up in a single lane and abandoning a perfectly good and legal lane open next to it can cause backups and blockages in the preceding intersection leading to delays to traffic going other directions as well

Obviously I'm not talking about an interstate scenario

Yes it all works perfectly with less traffic/volume. We don’t get to turn the traffic down. It’s lots and more than fits through the funnel. It backs up.

I’m with your brother. The people that don’t understand the zipper method are the same people that don’t understand why you should back into parking spaces.

That’s because most drivers are imbeciles and instead of decreasing their speed 2-3 mph and opening spots in the lane to merge in, they’d rather ride the bumper of car in front of them and then slam in their brakes causing much larger delays because “I was here first”.

I don’t see this really often in the last 1000’

I mostly see it when people don’t even attempt to merge till they have to completely stop because there is no room left in their lane.

This. Traffic is stopped for half a mile. Big flashing signs say lane closed ahead. But people zoom right up to the barricade then expect to merge. frick that.
