Apparently the entire state has a shite economy. People move there for the scenery, but leave for work.

it’s literally in the suburbs. Also I think adidas’ us ops are based out of Portland. And it’s right next to one of the prettiest regions in the country. I visited there last November and was blown away with the scenery.

Visited some fiends in Portland last year. It’s a really cool city with a massive park system that’s 2nd to none from where I’ve been. Home prices are really high... the sign of a humming economy.

From our friends reports, the trouble is confined to a very small area and everyone just goes about life, takes their afternoon hikes etc.

The basement dwelling incels around here and the poli board will paint everything with a broad brush from their echo chambers and fake news sources. A tip for a happy life.. don’t be like them.

Portland WAS on my list of cool cities to visit. Pacific NW. never been in that region. Cool food, scenery, and craft beer. Oregon has some great golf courses.

Between this nonsense and Covid their tourism based businesses must be gutted.

All in a town hundreds of miles away from the two incidents of police shootings, and is already very liberal. They are about to have plenty to bitch about. Their crumbling economy.

Like to extend an invite to ONLY the craft beer brewers and coffee makers of Portland to head down to Austin. Just the owners. We have hippies in Austin that can do the jobs Portland hippies were doing

Good point, it is trending downtown Seattle though. And I don't care about protesting, it is the aggressive homeless that ruins western downtowns. No clue why they put up with it.

No more than the Dallas Cowboys located in Arlington are really associated with Dallas.

I’m not trying to shite on the city

Of course you are. Just because you say you are not doing something doesn’t mean you are not doing it. The rioters in Portland say they are not rioting, but they most definitely are rioting.

what drives their economy

They have a lot of diverse industries driving their economy. It’s really the perfect storm of older money like Nike, Adidas, huge agriculture, manufacturing (Precision a Fortune 500 company), tech and exports/ports.

It’s sickening to see what’s going on in Portland, especially since it is a pretty cool city with a town atmosphere. But to knock it for what its major contributions are is really unfair.

I don't know, but I know Portland is just over 70% white, 10% hispanic and about 5% black... Yet they protest BLM a lot.

Surprised it’s only double tbh

Looks like it is more than double the people.

Clicking those statistical areas:
Portland - 2.75M people and $164B GDP
Nola - 1.28M people and $80B GDP

So per capital Nola is higher? Seems crazy.

ETA:

Well apparently the population and GDPs don't match for what they used in the GDP per capita. I used the population numbers from the statistical areas listed in the GDP list and for some reason it doesn't match wiki's own GDP per capita. Wikipedia being inconsistent, go figure.

the mouth breathers that rarely leave their Parish have a knack for parroting Fox News. They would have you believe SF is a literal shite hole and has piles of shite and dirty needles all over the place. When the reality I see more of that in the bigger cities in the south like my beloved nola

Are you going to start a petition requesting that Portland be removed from the United States? I’m sure they have already started removing US postal boxes. What the hell, let’s see how many signatures you get...

You could of just googled. The OT isn't exactly known for its economic knowledge. Portland is a lot more prosperous than New Orleans. It has the 3rd largest port on the west coast I think, lots of tourism nearby, numerous Fortune 500 companies, finance hub, and is a tech hub. Of course, this could all change, I would move after all this bs.

Not even close to being true. There are plenty of good jobs in this state, but it's not cheap to live here.
