Here's what helped me:

Everything bad that's happened in my life (within reason) was under the influence of alcohol. Sure... There's some good times in there. But there's a lot of bad times. And I tend to remember/dwell on the bad times a lot more than the good times.

Another reason is that I don't sleep a lot. When you don't sleep a lot and you drink a lot, it's fricking brutal. Waking up feeling crisp and refreshed is better for my life right now.. Also, the hangovers got worse and worse.

Finally - my biggest reason. I have kids now. They've seen me drunk and it's embarrassing. I finally decided I didn't need to do that anymore.

Ultimately my prob is that I can't have one beer. I need two beers. Three beers. 12 beers. 16 beers. If you can have one or two, then you know what you're doing. I can't.

Jesus and the threat of getting in a car wreck from my own stupidity. There are lots of decent people in jail who made a bad decision. I knew that my second chances were up and I asked for help from the one true almighty savior. I'm over 3 years sober and have lost 45 pounds and I am happy to be alive. For what it's worth, I drank morning, lunch and in the evening. I was a functioning alcoholic.

Still looking for soberity even is?
I've been sober for 26 years now. Not a drop.
A combination of things for me. I wanted more money for fishing expenses, witnessed 3 generations of a family die by a drunk driver, and the Gospel message was finally permeating my soul. The perfect storm, if you will.
