If you are obese and at risk for Covid:

1) Stay at home and completely quarantine for 2 months until the government says you can go back to your normal life hoping that after 2 months there’s a decent treatment available if you get it.

2) Working out daily and eating healthy for 2 months but during that time, you don’t completely quarantine. You go to the grocery when needed, play some golf, see close family.

Obviously, a combination of both would be the most beneficial in the long run but if you had to pick one over the other, which would you choose?

At this exact point in time? Stay home and completely isolate. Once the “danger” passes, get in shape

an obese person is not going to do much to help themselves in 2 months

but working out and eating healthy is never the wrong answer

Because that wasn’t an option. The choices were one or the other. Also as salmon said 2 months is not enough to change your comorbidity risk. After this is over though, I’m that fat person should get into shape for their own sake.

Salmon, I apologize for calling you scruffy.

Why wait to lose weight and get healthier if you need that?

Beyond Covid, it has a ton of other benefits. People who are always going to get into shape next month...well, next month never comes.

Quarantine and spend the time setting healthy eating and workout patterns.

I’ve seen some pretty crazy transformations in that time when people simply eat well. Adding in a daily workout routine would take that even further. Obviously, it wouldn’t get them down to completely healthy. But would their chances of survival be higher than simply waiting for an agreed upon treatment (which isn’t guaranteed) while being as fat and unhealthy as ever?

Why is working out/eating healthy and quarantining mutually exclusive in this scenario?

Y’all are missing the point of the question. It’s not what’s better for you chronically, it’s what is better for you in the next two months and exercising while still quarantining wasn’t an option listed.

Of course getting your self healthier while quarantining is the superior option. But that wasn’t an option in the question.

I guess option 2. It depends on age though. If you're obese and you've over the age of 40 then you likely have far greater health problems than an overabundance of visible fat stores. High blood pressure, likely prediabetic, visceral fat (internal fat that puts pressure on the organs and can build up in your arteries), etc.

Either way you need to start with option 2, regardless of Covid. What you should be doing is some kind of intermittent fasting program or One Meal A Day (OMAD) fast, where you're one meal is something high in protein and very low in carbs. And you should do this for about 6 months depending on how fat you are. You should also mix in one 36-hr fast each week. Fasting is the best way to clean up your body in a more impactful way than simply losing visible fat. It essentially causes your body to eat itself, and your body starts with the weakest, most compromised cells first. Which a deeply unhealthy person will have a lot of.

It’s a hypothetical. I noticed you didn’t quote my last paragraph.

I am 47 years old. I am 5'10" and 240 lbs. So I am obese but I used to weigh over 300lbs. I also have Type II Diabetes and Hypertension. I am considered essential and I go to work every day in a medical facility in BR that has COVID patients downstairs. We have separate entrances from the downstairs unit and separate ventilation systems between the upstairs offices and the Inpatient Unit down stairs.

I am constantly washing my hands and spraying Lysol. In addition I have been given an N95 mask but I rarely wear it.

Working from home is an option for me but we need some kind of presence in the business office to keep things running as we manage 40+ post acute medical businesses from this office.

I know. I know. I am fat and must be stupid.
