re: What is going to happen to IVF treatment?

The options now for extra embryos are
1. Implant them
2. Store them
3. Donate them via embryo adoption or to researchers
4. Destroy them
"Destroy" is a little misleading as you really don't have to actively DO much to cause that destruction, just stop maintaining their cryopreservation. Kind of like you aren't required to keep someone connected to life support machines, you aren't required to keep that embryo vial in liquid nitrogen. So in theory, a couple could call up their fertility clinic and say "Hey we'd like to come pick up our remaining embryos, please pull them out of the freezer."
The couple takes their embryos home, maybe to attempt a home insemination (not going to work but there is no law against trying it) or to allow their embryos to pass peacefully at home with their family.

Why ban that?
Because we might have to destroy a couple of 5 day old embryos in order to create a living baby. Totally unacceptable.
Fundamentalism breeds the inability to wrestle with nuance.

No one needs IVF.
Pray for a baby. If God wants you to have one, you will have one.

Yes, you are correct in a black and white world, but it's not that easy.. You know that.

I agree with your general premise here, though I’m not sure it’s wording is exact.
*Note: while not originally intended as such, I see the irony before submitting it.

Very curious to see how Republicans handle this.
You mean pro-life, right? Not Republicans.

You sure do love that government intervention, don’t you?

I mean Republicans. They are the ones in charge in Texas. I’m curious to see if they will tell the fundamentalists to STFU and create a carve out for IVF. They don’t have the cover of Roe anymore. They are in charge now.

I'm glad we took god out of the equation and went with IVF. Couldn't be happier with my little man.

In Texas, life now begins at fertilization. So what happens to the extra embryos that are created during IVF? Is the government going to find wombs for all of them? If you are only allowed to make 1 embryo per IVF cycle, the procedure would become prohibitively expensive. 2% of US babies are born via IVF, so if we care about life, there needs to be some sort of carve out for IVF treatment. Very curious to see how Republicans handle this.
Texas will have a law to address this I assume.
It may or not be to "Republicans" likings.

IVF is against God's Plan. No woman who is barren should seek a mortal doctor to undo what our Lord has destined.
But it's big business... isn't it.

plenty of people that have had to go the IVF route and guess what? it worked! people that wanted the miracle of life achieved it.

IVF is an abomination to nature and shouldn't happen. It being prohibitively expensive doesn't bother me one bit.
Maybe with it being so expensive people will adopt more, kill two birds with one stone.

Is chemo also against God's plan? What about organ transplants? Dialysis? Blood transfusions? What if the woman isn't barren but her husband is?
Some people are opposed to all of the above, just wondering where your line is.

Good thing I don't have the poors then right?

In our lifetime, we've seen women go after health providers to make IVF and fertility a covered aspect of their health plans.
Think about that. People want babies on the cheap but refuse to adopt kids that already exist waiting for homes. Mighty Baptist of them.

Ban IVF and tell couples there are a bunch of babies waiting on adoption.
I’m pro-life. My wife and I couldn’t have kids, we adopted.
It’s not that hard.
If not trolling go frick yourself.

This is one of the most bullshite takes I’ve ever seen on this site, and that’s saying a lot. There’s nothing wrong with a couple wanting a biological child, and we have the technology to safely make it possible.
