It has to be exceptionally rare cosmetically speaking for many more planet to have an eclipse such as ours, where their moon appears to be the same size as their sun from the planet's surface. It makes you realize what a miracle the Moon is.

In Louisiana but I enjoyed using the glasses, taking photos, showing the kids the crescents in the shadows and the change in the brightness of the day. It's not like cloud cover, it's different.

All were less than satisfying to me. I found these things intriguing, but only slightly.

I don't know how to do screen shots. If you can look at google maps, click the traffic on and zoom out to get the whole country. You can see the path of the eclipse in red and orange.

100% totality. The shadow snakes on the pavement before and after totality were cool also.

Once it gets dark and you can take your glasses off. Wow. Some stars and Venus were also visible.

Everyone loved it.

For about 2 minutes before totality/maximum, social media went quiet as everyone went to where they were going to witness it; unfortunately, it has been followed with 3 hours of unrelenting 'LOOK AT ME LOOKING AT THE ECLIPSE' postings.

My kids spent the day with their grandparents. Grandpa made one of the box viewers for them. They thought it was pretty cool. They had a good day with him, and they'll remember it. He may not be here for the 2024 one.

Coolest thing is it doesn't happen more often, it seems like it would

I watched the WWL Facebook live feed and read the live chat during the coverage. The lack of knowledge of how this works by some people amaze me.

"Nothing in St. Bernard yet"

"Why is the screen dark, but it's still sunshine outside?"

"When will it get dark in River Ridge? - The news said it will hit here at 1:30."

I think for our area it wasn't what we all expected although I enjoyed the temp drop as it was happening. It was literally 99 and 100 degrees depending on whether you were in the yard or in front of the house.
This was something I thought was the coolest unexpected part of the eclipse though.

This was taken under a tree that normally would be just sunlight/shadows through the leaves of the tree. Instead today there were crescent shapes of the eclipsing sun. This was taken after the peak of the eclipse.

It was not dramatic. The last legit eclipse I was in was '87 or '88 and it got dark enough for a couple of minutes in the middle of day that it was like 10 min before sundown.

Where I am it was projected 80% coverage and had I not known about the eclipse I probably wouldn't have noticed anything.

I was in GA in totality and it was outstanding. The best part was looking through the sunglasses, the last sliver of sun disappears, and taking off your glasses the sun and corona are just there BOOM in your face.

Not sure. The drive-thru doesn't serve itself. Get a job.

Agree, I've seen pictures and I just wasn't prepared for how awesome it was to see it in real life. The colors were just crazy. Then looking to the horizon to see a 360 degree sunset color all around you. Was impressive. I will travel for 2024 to see it again.

This. I've seen hundreds of eclipse pictures in my day, but nothing could have prepared me for the moment you first see the totality after taking off the glasses. One of the biggest mind blowing moments of my life

We only got to 80 percent in my area, so the event itself was really no big deal. I did, however enjoy the social phenomena surrounding the whole thing.

I enjoyed thinking about the fact that in the dark ages, anyone who could predict such an event could pretty much have anything they wanted. They would be known as a sage or even a witch doctor.

I enjoyed watching a bunch of ball earther idiots staring up at a hoax perpetuated to distract from the mountain of flat earth evidence suddenly uncovered
