Do college students listen to bands?
I don't believe that people listen to music like we used to. It's more about the party and being seen. I think they view themselves as the center of attention, and music is background for whatever they are doing. and yes, i'm old. but dang, when someone like Robert Earl Keen, Reckless Kelly, Pat Green or Bob Schneider is playing at the Varsity, and the dance floor is taken up with people standing in circles talking loudly, or are lined up at the bar with their back to the band, something is wrong.
PARTEEEEE, wooooohoooo. get off my lawn

Had so many good times there in the 90s and early 00s. Saw some great bands and also danced my butt off on retroactive and disco retro nights.
It's a shame

I watched movies there. Was a different experience than the big theaters.

That's sad to hear if true.
I saw eve 6 and Judah and the lion there when I was in school.

D-Loc and Saint from Kottonmouth Kings gave my friend and I backstage passes when they played there in 1998. That played a heavy hand in setting the course of my life. And no, they didn’t frick us. I don’t think.
I used to run lights and played on stage there many times. It probably wasn’t a great venue, but it was great for memories. Sad it’s just a dance club now, but the market wants what it wants.

So basically nobody knows the answer

I believe the assumed answer is that management is not currently pursuing live entertainment. That can always change.
We are all old and just like to remember the glory days, so we hijack threads.

Remember seeing Better Than Ezra there a few times in the late 90s. Good times!

I saw Dave Matthews band there twice before they got big. My roomate worked there and convinced me to come to the show. First time was free with maybe 10 people there. A few weeks later it was $3 with double the people. They took off soon after.
Also saw Hum twice, Tripping Daisy, Self, Deep Blue Something, Toadies, North Mississippi All stars with T Model Ford and many more.

An unfortunate combination of struggling with COVID, outsourcing their booking to an unreliable 3rd party for a while who didn't know the BR scene, the new Chelsea's Live as a competitor filling a lot of that music vacuum as a result, kids not going out as much anymore, and a portion of bands skipping over Louisiana when they may not have before.
That being said, it's a fantastic venue and there's still plenty of potential to have great shows and large crowds there with the right artists/events. I love that place as much as any in Baton Rouge... hoping they can get their momentum back.
