These aren’t slaps. It’s heel of the palm to the jaw first followed by the fingers. Not a slap.

For me corruption.
Around 2003.
HBO bout. Larry Merchant and George Foreman announcing.
Heavyweight. BOTH fighters managed by Don King. In the fight, one guy beat the absolute crap out of the other guy. It was not close. One guy looked like he had worked out at the gym, the other guy looked like he was on the way to the hospital.
Split decision for the dead man walking. George and Larry were stunned. George said "that was the best fight money could buy."
I saw plenty of fights over the years where I thought the judges were bought but they were close fights. This fight was not.
I went from paying for all heavyweight events to nothing. Zero. I don't watch wrestling. I was done watching rigged boxing. Not a single boxing match watched since 2003.

The boxers started making enough money that it was worth it to NOT win and then use that loss to justify a rematch

Also boxing matches turned into a couple punches then a bear hug. Couple of punches then a bear hug. Couple of punches then a bear hug. I'd rather watch a caterpillar eat a leaf.

Which makes it fake.

That is what beat Tyson. Don't box him. Hug him. That is what drove him insane in the fight with Holyfield.
It also sucked that you would get one big fight a year. Then a rematch. Boring as frack.
Yawn. I don't miss it. I wish that I did but I don't.

Boxing needs to get back on free tv. Thursday night fights ( USA) used to be the best-- Butterbean, Buster, Byrd and all the up and comers were on . That isn't even the middle weights and lights.

1. Fights were fixed.
2. Promotions kept the best fighters from fighting each other.
Now no one cares.

Super heavyweights ruined the sport. They are too big for more agile and exciting fighters to knock out. They are too big and slow for fights to be exciting to watch. Without the heavyweight division, boxing suffers. And since there is no more Oscar or Mayweather to draw in lower class weights the sport has struggled to keep the average fans interested.

Headbutts drove him insane in the Holyfield fights. Holyfield was cheap.

Too many promotions and belts and scumbags involved
Then UFC came along and was way more fun until it started sucking, too

I have been a boxing fan all of my life. The last eight or ten years I have watched maybe two fights a year. In the past I watched two fights (or fight cards) a month.
The best used to fight the best. The best used to fight often. Nowadays the best avoid each other as long as they can. No one wants to chance having a loss on their record. Many fighters only have one fight a year now, maybe, just maybe two.
There aren't many fighters with big personalities or charisma and skill like years past. Guys like Duran, Arguello, Salvador Sanchez, Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Sugar Ray Leonard, Monzon, Hagler, Hearns, etc.
Back in the 70's and 80's big name fighters and great fights were often on Saturday afternoons. Tim Ryan and Gil Clancy, those were the days. Matthew Saad Muhammad, John the Beast Mugabi, Boom Boom Mancini....those days are long gone.
