Pay per view killed boxing. There ceased to be any connection to the fighter and casual fans. The promoters and fighters got too greedy. As someone mentioned, you could follow fighters working their way up. I remember watching Tommy Morrison slowly move up the rankings on TV. I remember ABC having title fights on network TV. UFC filled the void and was on TV somewhere all the time and you could get to know and recognize the fighters.

The fight I'll never forget was the '82 bout between Boom Boom Mancini and Deuk Koo Kim. That was a brutal fight, and I mean brutal, that ultimately cost Kim his life. The fight should have been stopped in the 10th round. Within months of Kim's death from brain injuries, the referee and Kim's mom committed suicide
