I am a plant operator. Normally my plant runs smooth so I sit in the control room studying P&ID’s until the guy working the board tells me something needs to be adjusted. I also have to take samples of water and oil on a daily basis. I have hourly rounds I have to make and record temperatures and pressures to make sure the plant is running smooth. If something isn’t running normal levels I have to adjust valves according to what the board man needs to make sure the plant puts out enough product.
My job on the steam powered ships during my time in the Navy. Steam plant operator. Grass was greener as an HVAC tech though.

Not sure why everyone thinks they make a ton of money, yea they can make decent money for someone without a degree but they have to work a ton of hours to do it.

What do you consider a ton of OT?

To make 125K them guys have to average close 65-70 hours a week if not more.

Thats not true
I averaged 49 hours this year made 125k

Not true, I made over 120 this year and Im not sure how many hours I worked but I don't feel like I made a lot of OT.

How many yrs of experience do each you have?
Posted on 12/21/17 at 8:30 pm to GREENHEAD22
6th year of ops. I'm 30
Posted on 12/21/17 at 8:32 pm to GREENHEAD22
Not bragging on being an Operator by any stretch and I don't see myself staying in this role any longer than I have to, but I made $135K on an average of 52 hrs./week this year.

I'm also 30 and just finished my 6th year. I worked at bank in college and the white collar world just wasn't for me.

Don't you work in IT? Just curious because I've seen you post about making less than 50k (or somewhere around there) which is unusual in that field unless you have just a year or two of experience or you fix printers

You're mistaking the number of hours they're paid for vs the hours they're in the plant. Operators don't quickly disclose that they work 4 on and 4 off and when they work a 5th day that entire shift is double time if they're called in(unscheduled).
I am quite versed in pay codes and hourly labor analyses in various facilities, union and non. Pretty good at proving when two buddies scheme to call out the same days to let each other get called in(get paid sick time to not come in when scheduled and double time to come in when scheduled).

We don't admit it because out isn't true for non union plants.
