A "plant operator" is a person that's too embarrassed to tell you what they do for a living.

BS. As a retired power plant operator with over 35 years in the field, things are not that easy. Top operators have to keep up with regulations be it state or fed. Unreal how they change.

Board operators direct field operators as needed. Board operators in my pass job are the only people working a full 12 hours. Way more so in a coal fire power plant. Yes, it is true there are slack times of ease, but when shite hits the fan, all asses are on deck to handle all problems. Product is the end of the game.

You mean the guys who couldn't pass a simple mechanical aptitude entrance exam. Or "got fricked in the hiring process."

I. Mention the CBTs in my linked post. You're right. MOC is huge and requires a shite load of 'continuing education'.

I'm thinking about using my Post 9/11 GI Bill to go to get the PTEC degree. Any recommendations?

Depending on what you did in the military, your experience alone should be good enough to get you an interview. Not gonna lie though, plants love the PTEC degree.

As far as recommendations.....doesn't matter. Any community college that offers a PTEC degree is fine. They are viewed as equal by plants. If you get an interview, be personable and always think of your answers and experiences in the past coming from an angle of doing things safely.

Unless you have a relative working in said plant you probably should even be wasting your time asking about this.

The days of your Dad, Grandpa, Uncle getting you a job are long gone. Unless you have a Ptech degree you could be wasting your time.
