now I am sure a computer flags any medications that could cause adverse reactions taken with another. So they count pills

Meh. Most patient medication histories are incomplete.

exactly and like the guy above you posted the last line of defense, they are almost as or more important than doctors.

Right, and I guess the pharmacist is just the last line of defense making sure you don’t take things that don’t interact well with one another

You are assuming that a patient has all of their Rxs filled at the same place.

My wife has a couple of life-long drugs she has to take and one of them is cheaper (by a lot) at Kroger and one is cheaper (by a lot) at HEB.

That's why you need to make sure the docs know everything you are taking...

Relying on that is a recipe for disaster. Even when they bring in a ziplock with all their medicine bottle in it there are still lots of potential issues.

At least I can be confident that it's the correct count.

I swear my fiancées adderall script has been short before because she takes her prescribed dose yet some months runs out a few days before refill. I think they skim it knowing nobody checks behind it

Push flu shots and vaccines on everyone for that sweet sweet government cheddar.

My favorite “reward” for being the store with the most flu shots given was the District manager would have to come work a shift in the pharmacy so they could endure the punishment of people screaming at us for stuff that’s not our fault

So stupid . They don’t know what the hell they’re doing and just in the way.

I could not imagine a worse job. They have a nice salary but holy frick could you imagine sitting in the back of a CVS/Walgreens all day??

I worked on the retail side of a Rite-Aid in college and it did seem like the worst job in the store, but they were paid the most by a lot.

The pharmacists there (I assume it is the same for all the other big box pharma) didn't work "shifts" like the retail folks or the pharmacy techs. Like a shift for a tech would be like 9am-3pm and around 1 or 2 another tech would come in and work the night shift until close. The pharmacists would work open to close all day every day. They were never relieved and we had one guy who I never ever saw take a lunch break. shite was insane. He would count pills and talk on the phone ALL fricking day with only bathroom breaks as needed.

Only difference you don't have to work your arse off in college to get into pharma school then do that for 3 years and pay an absorbent(exorbitant) amount of money for grad school...to be in the back of a rite aid...and do that in EBR

Explain drugs, drug interactions, and side affects.

Count pills. Talk to insurance for approvals of medications.

Not sure why but I thought pharmacies systems are basically linked or connected so that you can’t pharmacy hop say for narcotics.

Because doctors always get it right...so there shouldn't be another check in the system...

One I know plays whackamole with the TD admins and his alters. Other than that he spends a lot of time trying to convince us why a robot won’t take his job soon.

Guess they could set that up to actually assist in patient care....but why would they do something to benefit the patient
