A compounding pharmacy will actually combine ingredients to make some medicines.

Tuition at Xavier is @40K/yr x4, so $160K.

Not easy to get into either.

Average retail pharmacists start around $125k. Plenty more to be made with OT.

You'd be shocked how many times doctors write scripts that are complete nonsense: doses that don't exist, wrong formulations, nonsense directions, etc.

Pharmacists have told me retail sucks. The hospital pharmacists probably do much more.

My buddy (a pharmacist) told me that retail is shitty, but it pays better than hospital. He worked as a compounding pharmacist for chemo before going into management.

ETA: I want to say that he mentioned some retail pharmacists don't get a lunch break and have to stand for like 12 hours straight or some nonsense. He said he mostly bs'ed while doing his hospital rotations.

I am not

Within the pharmacy field, though I don't have anything to do with the actual med dispensing. I do see everything that happens, however

Yep, open a package with 30 pills in it, then puts in another bottle and counts the 30 pills, puts a fresh label on it and charges 10000000000%.

Retail pharmacies are part of a stores marketing strategy too. They are in the back of the "store" for a reason...so customers walk through other product areas and buy other things. Waiting a little while for you Rx to be filled encourages other shopping as well.

Apps for Rx ordering and drive-throughs are nice

My cousin's wife is a pharmacist at a hospital and it sounds 1000x more stressful than the Rite Aid folks. I'm guessing the money is way better, too.

My favorite is when they don't even do that much. Most times I end up with the unopened original container with my Rx label slapped on it. At least I can be confident that it's the correct count.
