I always hate when people who aren’t from south Louisiana - mainly the Acadiana area, the small, backwoods, middle of nowhere towns use it. It’s kind of our cultural word, so if you aren't from the culture, I dissuade/highly encourage you not to use it

A "bro" but a south Louisiana version.

The word itself is the coonass pronunciation of "boy".
Example: fresh choupique fried up is some good eatin', baw.
However, describing someone as a "baw" is totally different. That basically refers to white trash in south LA. The general stereotype is dudes that work on rigs/plants, drive big trucks, love Yeti/Drake/Costa decals on their back glass, tribal tattoos, etc.

It's "boy" spoken with a giant wad of tobacco in your lip.
It's basically this. The origins are the word "boy", but from someone with a coonass accent, so it sounds like "baw".
It's also used to describe a "country person", who likely drives a large truck, and works a blue collar job.
Source: I grew up in Vermilion parish, and I've heard the term long before it made it's way to TD.
