Do the normal no meat on Fridays and Ash Wednesday, although it really isn't a sacrifice....but in a way it kind of is because seafood is more expensive so it put's a hurting on my wallet.
Aside from that giving up cursing this year. It is HARD, but I've made it through today with no slips so far.

Giving up all sweets. Have done this for many years and, believe me, it is a real penance!

I gave up something for many years - sweets, sugar in my coffee, social media - but Lent was more helpful when I started focusing on being a better human and improving my mind/body/spirit.
Mind: Reading more, less TV. Reading daily scripture, something educational, etc.
Body: Feasting on nutritious food. Fasting/limiting alcohol and junk. Making a commitment to more exercise and better sleep. Treating my body well.
Spirit: Prayer & meditation. Focusing on God's blessings. Volunteerism & charity.
Basically how you "do" Lent is highly personal IMO, but it should always lead to a renewed sense of self by Easter.

Not gonna lie--I rarely do well with giving up things, whether as New Year resolutions or as part of the Lenten season.
That said, and even as a non-Catholic, I enjoy the heck out of South Louisiana's Friday seafood during Lent. Not really that sacrificial IMO, but it's a wonderful culinary tradition.

You do know it’s not some private club and anyone can join, right?

I'm not Catholic and don't practice Lent, but I am going to try to do better for the next few weeks. Everyone needs a little reset every now and then, and it seems like a good time for me.

Ate blackened redfish tacos for lunch. Such a sacrifice.

The same thing I do the other parts of the year.

I am giving up alcohol for Lent, or until I lose 10 lbs. I am not that big to begin with. Still, I expect to be drinking again within 3 weeks.

I know a guy who absolutely goes hard the rest of the year. Heavy drinker. Heavy eater. Goes to strip clubs multiple times a week. He cuts it all off. Honestly super impressed he can just turn it off because if he didn’t, I’d say no way this guy wasn’t an alcoholic.
Me? I haven’t given up anything really. I should. I’ll have to think though

Actually, you need a sponsor if you are not Catholic and you want to be one.

Cook seafood for the wife and kids every Friday. They're catholic. I'm not. God cares what's in your heart, not your stomach.

James 4:10
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
Joel 2:12-18
Even now, says the LORD,
return to me with your whole heart,
with fasting, and weeping, and mourning;
Rend your hearts, not your garments,
and return to the LORD, your God.
For gracious and merciful is he,
slow to anger, rich in kindness,
and relenting in punishment.
Perhaps he will again relent
and leave behind him a blessing,
Offerings and libations
for the LORD, your God.

Ash Wednesday is a day of FASTING and abstinence from meat, fyi.
Abstinence is a more about a physical bodily reminder of the season than it is a serious sacrifice.

I Am Catholic. I try to remember to do the Friday thing of no meat.
What I can’t get, is, alot of Yats do the fast thing of no meat, BUT, drive to the Mississippi coast to the Silver Slipper and eat the ALL U CAN EAT SEAFOOD BUFFET.
Is that suffering ?

It doesn’t sound like they’re fasting, but maybe they’re simply abstaining.
It’s a point well taken, though. Lent must be more than this simple practice of eating seafood on Fridays.
But we must hesitate to judge the visible practice and the hearts of others. Maybe they are fasting in other ways.
