Krav Maga or Brazilian jujitsu

Another solid suggestion.

Well done then and wish your son the best.he should be well prepared to protect himself. I taught my sons to not bully and help those that are being bullied. They have done that and we have even received thank you’s from parents of kids they stood up for.
I think kids walking and acting with confidence will avoid a lot of bullying.
I appreciate that. He's my oldest and never was athletic but a really good kid, almost too nice. I can tell his confidence level has increased dramatically and it's done him well. I never did martial arts, played baseball and football through HS, and thankful for that, but I'm so much more pumped up about BJJ and boxing than baseball and football now.

Hell find a HS with a good wrestling program and he’ll be able to take down 90% of baws his age

Kung fu from some old dude in remote China

He may end up doing that in HS if he's still interested. In all honesty, as much fishing, hunting, robbing banks, etc we do, seeing him grow doing MA is something that amazes me. I didn't realize how hard they work kids, cardio, flexibility, confidence, discipline, etc.
ETA: The instructor cussing a 5 y/o out is pretty common. I remember in HS getting kicked in the arse by a football coach for screwing up a play in practice and that was nothing.

For just self defense stuff and the ability to get yourself out of a jam, i would go with Krav Maga

No one martial art will solve everything. I’m a brown belt in BJJ. The last place I want to be in a real life fight is on the ground. That being said:
1-wrestling. The training alone is brutal and the cardio is unmatched. Wrestlers are not to be fricked with
2- Muay Thai. The ability to one punch KO a motherfricker gains immediate respect and people back off . Boxing is also on par with this but Muay Thai wins IMO due to elbows (highly underrated) and kicks

BJJ shoukd be the focus. Fold in wrestling, boxing, and krav

Well the truth is, my son is 11 and I'm drunk. But I've enjoyed his BJJ and boxing lessons and seeing him grow and just curious of all the bullies on TD opinions. That's the truth.
BJJ. I’ve practiced them all at a beginner level. If you think your son is making progress at BJJ at 15, that’s impressive. It took me a month of two to understand the dynamics and physics and what not. He’ll be around the Muay Thai/boxing/kickboxing space if he’s going somewhere BJJ wise.I’m just relaying my experience. Good luck. I’d think you’re less likely than not in a BJJ situation neutralizing a situation rather than using force-(lawsuit). You rocked him and got him-he sues. With BJJ you can have the same outcome without harming the other as much as a strike.
ETA: Quoting was not working. Conspiracy enablers.

Learn multiple, one that is striking focused (kickboxing is the best) and one that is grappling focused (BJJ or wrestling).

I’d say muay Thai. Those guys unreal at dishing and taking punishment.

Systema, Russian combat martial arts. Even US Agents are learning pieces of it for their specific needs.

Depends. How many baws you plan on fighting at once? And where?

learning BJJ and taking boxing lessons also, or one or the other
If you go to any BJJ school with a picture of Helio Gracie on the wall, you will learn a self defense component as part of your training. That is generally what separates us from the other brands of BJJ. We always start a class with a self defense application and lots of times it has a stand-up basis. Now, honestly, you aren't getting a boxing class level of instruction on stand-up depending on the instructor's background (an MMA instructor teaching BJJ might be more legit as an example) but it will get you out of a jam.
