Randolph Aviator sunglasses are military issue, but most pilots I know wear a really good pair of polarizing sunglasses

As long as they don't stare directly at the sun it shouldn't matter.

Nope. FAA recommends non-polarized only. Don't want to wear anything that reduces or eliminates reflection of light off of other aircraft.

Randolph or Ray Ban. Both solid brands.

Well, I'm guessing they just don't stare at the sun, for starters.

Polarized sunglasses are good for fishing but that's about it.

If Randolph's are good enough for Don Draper they're good enough for pilots

I have about 100 Randolph's from my time in the Army. Never wore them once. Always wore polarized Oakley's of some sort.

I don't wear polarized sunglasses when flying, especially with a glass cockpit.

On a sunny day I'm usually scanning the horizon for other aircraft and checking my instruments. Plus we have sunshades and glare shields built into the cockpit.
