I’m very leary a a major illness or other event with me or the mrs with some crappy insurance could wipe out our savings or one of us has to go to nursing home.
I’ve been meaning to talk to someone smarter than me about this topic. Is there a way to structure assets so that a big medical event for you or spouse couldn’t bankrupt you? How can you structure and protect assets so it can’t get attacked in terms of cancer diagnosis without the luxury of quality health insurance.

It is not a coincidence that the EBR Council on Aging is rife with corruption. The lady in charge has swindled seniors, yet has been given full control over the agency's finances.
Old people are the bread and butter for con artists in local and state government. The money is there.
If we did right by our people in the US, people under 18 and over 70 would not have to pay for much of anything. However, we waste too much money propping up working age lazy asses to afford such a measure.

No 1 key to living a good life in Retirement
NO DEBT

Work and pay taxes your entire life, get some basic pittance of assistance when you’re too old to contribute any longer and it’s “collect free shite”.

Ill always do something as long as I'm physically able because sitting at the house just isn't for me
Ive never understood this line of thinking .. if “sitting at the house” isnt for you, then why not do one of the million things smart people do in retirement- things like playing golf, fishing, volunteering, traveling and on and on and on…. If you dont like sitting at the house, why do you feel the need to continue working ??

All he has is Social Security and a little income from his YouTube channel. He's 66 and has a cute 29 year old Filipina wife. He lives in a 3/2 beach house just south of Dumaguete that costs him $500/month.
That sounds pretty good. Pics of wife?

traveling
My favorite thing to do. My work life will basically be to help fund my travel plans at that point. Work 4 to 6 months and then travel for 6 months.

I ran some numbers. You could do 35 days on beans and rice for about $90.
You could make that panhandling.

Are you referring to Social Security? Because not everyone gets the same amount.

Because a lot of American’s tie their self worth and identity to work. Once the kids are gone a lot of couples realize they have no shared interests with their spouses anymore. Their only hobby is to watch TV. It’s easier to keep working so you have something to do.
Our company sends out emails when retirees pass away. It’s shocking how many die within 5 years of retirement.

They are called “Poors” no one on this board can relate to their poor ways.

Ive never golfed or fished a day in my life.. i was just throwing things out off the top of my head that many retirees prefer doing as opposed to going to work .

Yep.. and it’s really sad…. Personally, i have a hard time finding time to do my current fulltime job since i have so many other things i like to do outside of work.. so i think i can state pretty definitively that i would not get bored in retirement, as some here seem to suggest that many do .
