This reminds me of seeing a kid with a 3”+/- “outie” belly button at the park one day, I was about 9.

We used to call the first one a teeter totter. But we also called the water fountain a bubbler. Wisconsin.

see-saw and merry-go-round

This.

Both were fun if you were more physically gifted than other kids. The see-saw was great for suddenly leaping off of when you cohort was up in the air and watching them bust their arse and the merry-go-round was great for spinning harder and harder until other kids started flying off into space.

But not 'weird' in the Midwest apparently. I think we used see-saw or teeter-totter the same. Also grew up in MW, born in the 50's (that was a long time ago, for you kids, almost before Columbus).

The trend I'm seeing is that weirdos that call coke "soda" or "pop" called a seesaw a teeter-totter.

We used "soda" or "pop" to just say "soft drink" generically w/o any specific reference to brand/type.

If you specifically wanted a Coke or a Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Orange Crush, or a 7-Up, you asked for it by name. If you went to friends and wanted to know if they had any soft drinks at all, you'd ask if you could have a 'soda' or a 'pop', or maybe even 'soda-pop'. Then you'd find what kinds they had, "OK, I'll take a Coke, you can have the 7-Up".
