Two great movie series began... Lord of the Rings (RIP) and Harry Potter. We were also introduced to Christopher Nolan (Momento).

Kashmir and Palestine were already going nuts.

Kim Jung-nam (oldest son of Jim Jung-il) tried to sneak into Tokyo Disneyland. Un had him poisoned years later.

Netherlands became the first country to legalize same-sex marriage.

TS Allison did a corkscrew and fricked up Houston and southeast LA. First TS to have its name retired.

There was a bridge collapse in South Padre Island that killed 8 people. It happened on September 15th.

Yep! Total brain fart on my part. That six season skid is burned into my brain so badly it took center stage.

This is wild. I did not know about this.

The media was focused on a supposedly high level of shark attacks that summer.

Correct, the national media had coined it "Summer of the Shark" in Florida with daily updates, it was still going strong into September. Then on the 11th, everyone stopped talking about the sharks.

As already said, Chandra Levy the intern and Senator Gary Condit, and why he walked 10 blocks to throw away an empty McDonald's bag instead of putting it in his own trash, or any of the 20 trash cans he passed along the way.

Came here to post this.

Was supposed to be a hearing on capital hill to discuss the audit and missing cash.

I got married 10 days earlier. It was a historic, sad day for many women.

This was the first that came to mind. AA587 was the second.

Enron also collapsed in 2001.

Building 7 collapsing for no reason at all

Yep. No reason at all. No uncontrolled fires, no structural damage. Not even any of the usual signs of any humans installing explosives or detonation cords for a controlled demolition. Not even a trace of debris required for the aftermath of a controlled demolition.

It just fell for no reason at all.

On September 10th new Sectary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld announced that after an audit the Defense Dept. could not account for $2.3 Trillion.

More people died at the Capitol on September 18th than on January 6th, 5 killed in the 2001 anthrax attacks.

Thread got me thinking about the incredibly bad timing of both XFL seasons. The first in 2001 and the second in 2020.
