I lived there for a little bit of time after I got out of school and hated it. I found the professional crowd there to be pretty snobby and closed off. Plus, the nightlife is awful unless casinos are your thing. With that said, I agree with the consensus on great outdoors stuff around there.
Long term, Shreveport is a city that is dying as more and more people move off into the surrounding ares in Bossier/S. Shreve. I don't see that trend changing, and the city has not really seen any kind of development that would buck that trend.
Best of luck bud. I hated the place, but maybe it will be different for you.

You sound like someone that hasnt been here in a while. I had the same impression, but since moving back I was pleasently surprised at the downtown resurgence, bossier downtown is in the middle of a major overhaul, and some more restaurant variety (non-chain).
That being said, I am knocking on 40 and have no clue if I would like it if I was 25, single, and gay like the op

My time there wasn't too long ago. I agree that they are trying to get some things done downtown, and they were when I was there. With that said, Shreveport downtown has the same chicken and egg problem that a lot of smaller to midsize metro areas have in revitalizing a downtown in regards to which comes first...commercial or residential. People want certain commercial features to live there such as a gas station (which amazingly downtown didn't have one close by), grocery store or a decent drug store. However, those same businesses want people to be living downtown so they can sustain business. They both require the other to a certain extent. This doesn't take into account that the downtown area had an issue with homelessness and crime at times too.
Agreed that Bossier has seen a lot of development, but I think most young folks prefer to live in central cities and places like Bossier and S. Shreveport are more for people with families. So maybe a more accurate description of Shreveport/Bossier area is that it is probably a decent place to raise a family depending on where you live, but it won't necessarily be the most exciting place for a young single person.

Howdy neighbor
North Bossier City or South Shreveport is the place to live.
Nightlife of course you've got all the casinos but I would only venture to either Horseshoe, Margaritaville (both in Bossier City), or where the young crowd is El Dorado (Shreveport). The bars and clubs are all within walking distance of El Dorado, mostly just a block apart and of course you got the strip club down there too.
Superior Mexican restaurant is where it's at in Shreveport off Line Ave
Rent you'll probably look at $800-$1100 for a nicer one bedroom apartment

Holy shite this makes so much sense. I finally understand why your posts are so terrible. You're a child. Now I feel bad for constantly laughing at you.
I mean, I don't feel bad, but still.

I ate at a Mexican place that cooked tacos on a truck outside the restaraunt and then brought them inside, don't remember the name of it. They were the best tacos I've ever had and were $2 apiece.
Taqueria la Michoacana. That place is awesome. Also known as sketchy taco lol

That was probably Taqueria La Michoacana A/K/A "The Taco Truck". It's on Youree Drive (Hwy 1).
Ki Mexico is good, but they don't have any $2 tacos.

It's a really nice place to live and raise kids. I've got family there and they love it. If you're a single man there's plenty of places to grab a beer and plenty of beautiful women.

It's the nicest city to live in in louisiana. Sad but true.

I'd prefer Lafayette, north shore, or Baton Rouge....but I could probably live in Shreveport.
If I were 10 years younger, my answer would be different. Shreveport is a very small, traditional southern town. I think the Lafayette metro area will surpass the Shreveport metro area in size if it hasn't already.

Good luck to you, texag7. I hope you make the right choice.

It's a shite hole. Crime is insane, there is garbage covering the streets, the roads are full of pot holes, houses falling down everywhere, one of the interstate intersections (can't remember which) is a death trap. It's just an all around terrible city. You're better off moving down I-20 to Monroe, or up I-49 to Texarkana. No amount of money would make me want to live there.

I stay there throughout the week for school at LSUHSC it's not too bad.

It isn't too bad. I wouldn't want to live there, but I could make it work. About 1/4 or so of the town is nice (you'll have no reason to venture out to the other 3/4).
Post-college, I actually prefer it to all of Louisiana not named New Orleans (or the Metairie/Mandeville surrounding areas).
It isn't a very "open minded" town. It's definitely more of a traditional place. If you don't know anyone, I would be extremely proactive in meeting people. Shreveport, I've found, is cliquish.

Most SLa ppl will try to knock it. It has great infrastructure with a loop. It has the casinos but also a little bar scene downtown and at Superior. Very good lakes and hunting in the area. Some really good restaurants and nice areas of town. South highlands line road area. CenturyLink center pulls in some pretty big names for concerts and the casinos get typical casino acts. Also some of the better public schools in the state CE Byrd and Bossier parish schools are for the most part pretty solid.
You can choose to be miserable anywhere. If you want to hate Shreveport and dont try to get to know anyone/do anything sure there "wont be anything to do". Same could be said for most places.

Yeah S'port is no different than any mid sized city in the South. You can avoid the crap if you choose to.
