I have lived in lafayette, baton rouge, new orleans and shreveport. All have their pluses and minuses, but decided to live in shreveport. Not a bad town at all, gets a lot of heat on here, mostly from posters who have never been here.

Where is the job located? Not that that really matters, shreveport has a great infrastucture (unlike all the other cities in the state) and you can get anywhere in 20 minutes or less.

Primary goal of every young male in that area is to get a jacked up pickup and put glass packs on it. The really lucky ones get a diesel and tune it to roll coal. These will be your neighbors. Congrats.

I actually like Shreveport. Most towns are what you make of it and the friends you meet.
I'd recommend renting a house in S. Highlands or an apartment off Clyde Fant. Do not live on the west side. I wouldn't move to bossier, but that's me.
There are a few decent restaurants and there's enough going on to keep you entertained but definitely not distracted.

There are a lot of Aggies in Shreveport. I went in Great Raft one day when an A&M game was on, and the place was packed with Aggie fans.

I asked a guy if it was a reunion or something. He said someone called that day and asked if they would put the game on, they said they would, and word spread. Damn. Dat social media.

I was in Shreveport on business for a couple days this and week, and I enjoyed it. A lot of quiet old neighborhoods, people were nice.

I ate at a Mexican place that cooked tacos on a truck outside the restaraunt and then brought them inside, don't remember the name of it. They were the best tacos I've ever had and were $2 apiece.

I lived in the port city all my life and moved away like everyone else in my 20's. There was actually a campaign in the late 90's with advertising and a slogan to stop the hemorrhage of young educated professionals from leaving the city if that tells you something. Yes the town gets a bunch of shite, but rightfully so. After living in other cities of similar size that have their shite together, I will never subject my family to the trashiness of Shreveport. I haven't been back in a few years. I don't even feel the desire to go back and visit. But yes, if you like outdoor stuff like hunting and fishing live in bossier

Born & raised in BR...went to La. Tech and have been in N. La. since '89(bossier since '97). Was able to send both kids to public schools although youngest went to Loyola for HS). As posted.....north or south Bossier have some nice areas as well as south Shreveport. Traffic is is almost nonexistent for my needs....loops & multiple bridges between Shreveport/Bossier make getting around very easy. Decent enough restaurants...nightlife isn't a concern for me. 3-4 hour drive will get you to Dallas/Houston/Baton Rouge.

Was it Ki Mexico?...if so...their tacos are outstanding. Started with a food truck serving at Great Raft Brewery quite a bit and then opened their own restaurant.

Look, I've lived here my entire life. It's not the best city but it's nowhere near the worst. Lots of restaurants, a fair amount of bars, they're pretty but or miss on the level of fun you'll have, though. Casinos are a plus for now until Texas gets em. And they don't call this part of the state sportsman's paradise for nothing.

You're not too far from Dallas, BR, NOLA, or Houston. You've got Toledo Bend and Hot Springs within driving distance.

There is an abundance of smoking hot women here.

Drawbacks, Shreveport is becoming a liberal's paradise and has quite a few places that I would not be caught dead hanging out around after the sun goes down. Bossier has a pretty high trashy rate, but that's mainly haughton and some parts of south bossier.

I don't know what people are talking about with the no traffic. The people that drive here, I swear to god, drive like they're the only motherfrickers on the road and it is so fricking infuriating.

Do some research on the good areas and which to stay away from. A while back someone here made a map for me that basically said stay in the NorthEast part of town just under the river. From my experience so far thats the best advice. Renting/buying is incredibly cheap, especially if you are looking to buy a house. You can also find some very nice apartments in the CoatesBluff/Wright island area.

Night life is ok and mainly centered downtown. There are lots of bars scattered around though that are fun and 2 really fun breweries near the river.

Its not the most exciting town in the world but hopefully Uber will be coming soon so that will be a plus.
