Stay out of Shreveport, basically turning into a ghetto.

Move to Bossier, east of the Red River. I hear North Caddo parish is nice. Same about north Benton.

Not up to speed on night life, you have Louisiana Downs(which is decent), you have the casinos.

Lake Bistineau and Lake Claiborne, if you want to venture further east, there is Lake Darbonne.

They lied.

OP look at South Shreveport, South Bossier or North Bossier.

Apartment rent for a newer 1bd is 900-1k.

I have not been involved with the nightlife in quite some time but it is slightly stale and repetitive.

Quite a few fishing opportunities as well as public hunting.

It's not New York or New Orleans -- thank god-- but it is a decent place to live if you are in Louisiana.

I moved here as an outsider, and I liked it enough to commit and buy a home here. I have a friend who lived in Lafayette area and then Baton Rouge, but he came here for a short job and liked it enough to stay.

Had a coworker from New Orleans a while back. I said something about how I was sure he would head back to NOLA as soon as his job was up, and he said he really wanted to stay up here. I was surprised-- NOLA people always seem to head home -- but there are legit reasons.

Light traffic and low cost of living for starters. I know several other folks who moved here from other parts of Louisiana and Texas, and they liked it enough to stay and make it home.

Uninformed people on here bash S'port, but it's come a long way in the last 20 years. Traffic is not nearly as bad as most cities its size. And there are plenty of good restaurants and bars. Also there's really good fishing and hunting in that area of the state, if that's your thing.

Shreveport isn't very accepting of your kind.

Used to be good. Now they serve quantity over quality. Sauce has changed. Not as good as it used to be.

Your Aggie education couldn't get you a job in Texas? What about all the networking Aggies tell me about?

I like to shite on Baton Rouge sometimes, but Shreveport

And the schools suck, like most schools in Louisiana.

dont like it, I didn't like the people either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a POS too, but at least I'm real about it and have some actual Louisiana culture.

I've lived here my entire life and will never understand people who go out of their way to defend Shreveport. It's a shithole. It always has been and it always will be. Is it the worst city to live in? Absolutely not. But the bar is pretty low when you're comparing it with other shitty cities just to convince someone it's not the WORST place to live.

My main issue is the people. I understand that every city has their share of trashy people. Just seems to me that Shreveport/Bossier has an insane amount of drug addicts and just general trashiness that is passively accepted by everyone. Maybe because I've lived here so long I've been exposed to too much but damn, everywhere you go is crawling with the most tatted up, trashy, nasty looking, uneducated kinds of people. And honestly, I feel like an a-hole for saying that, because overall I find the people that live here to be extremely friendly, nice people. But the way that people live their lives around here, their lifestyle choices, it's just really gross the mindsets that people have these days. And I'm not just talking about the kids. I'm talking about the parents and grandparents too.

I don't know, maybe it's like that everywhere or maybe it's just a sign of the times. I just refuse to believe that it's like that everywhere.

Shreveport isn't bad. It gets a bad rap, but it doesn't deserve it. Is it south Louisiana? No. It's more like east Texas, and if you are ok with that then it's an alright place to live.

Move away, then come back to visit. It's even shittier when you come back and see that the trash is still there and the trashy people have multiplied X10.

However, if you don't mind living among trashy people, shitty malls, trashy curbs and sidewalks, dirty politics, crappy schools and no future once Texas legalizes casino gambling, then its a great place to fish and hunt.
