And if your kid has a brain the original magnet schools (south highlands, caddo middle, caddo magnet) are excellent

if you enjoy craft beer....there are 2 excellent breweries in SHV: Great Raft & Red River, 1 in Bossier: Flying Heart.

The suggestions in these threads are always so bad. A bunch of 50 year old men telling some 22 year old guy to move to the suburbs.

Shreveport is a mixed bag for sure..can be really fun if you keep away from the abundance of white trash.

You can choose to be miserable anywhere. If you want to hate Shreveport and dont try to get to know anyone/do anything sure there "wont be anything to do". Same could be said for most places.

Shreveport..... Crime rate: better than Baton Rouge or N.O. Traffic: better than Baton Rouge or N.O. Public schools: better than Baton Rouge or N.O.. Real estate prices: better than Baton Rouge or N.O. On the other hand, Baton Rouge has Tony's Seafood. And the Mall at Cortana. And a "new bridge." N.O. has the best restaurants. And the French Quarter. And the most mules. Choose wisely. Choose Shreveport.

I have lived in South Bossier for almost 5 years, not great but not bad. Red lights, turn signals and stop signs are completely optional.

Would suggest living in Benton/North Bossier/South Shreveport depending on where your job is but you can get anywhere in 20-30 min tops if you stay off of Youree and Airline. You can view really nice houses on one block and the next block see vacant falling apart homes but I think that is just Louisiana as a whole.

If looking for an apartment, a bunch of co-workers live in Jamestown on Barksdale blvd. and the apts off of Clyde Fant. Both are decent but those are the only ones I can give an opinion on.

I wouldn't live here if given the choice but I am from Bastrop so this is sadly an upgrade plus I got sent here via military so I am stuck. There are also a lot of people who commute from Texas daily and although I think they are crazy driving that far, they feel it is worth it.

I am in my early 30's with a family so I cannot comment too much on the nightlife but hear about it through the youngins in my shop and its a mixed bag of drama and epicness.
