Why did safelite go up so much? I remember about 11 or so years ago they replaced my Windshield at a little over $200. I know everything has went up since then but that is a ridiculous increase if it will cost me around 1000 now, and I do have one that needs replaced.

Reduce your comprehensive deductible to 250. I did this after multiple new windshields at $1000 each and it barely raised my premium.

I guess I'm lucky. Driving 25 miles ea way (interstate) to work last 30 yrs and only one ding, which I filled and it was GTG.

Durability is suspect. I've had 3 Safelite windshields in my car and it takes no time at all for the glass to get all pitted up

Had Safelight and it got cracked and went on Craigslist and found a guy.
Texted with him and he said he’d come by in an hour. Very cool guy that has done glass for 25 years and travels the world doing high end cars and race cards. Does this on the side
He spent five minutes telling me all about Safelite and how they buy em bulk from China
When he pulled out the Safelite glass he put it side by side with his glass and his was so much thicker and heavier. He also showed me the cheap glue they use and his was at least 3x wider and stronger
Charged me $250 to come to me and lifetime warranty. As soon as I drove it, it was 50% quieter. I’ve sent at least 10 people to him

Jeeps are notorious for running through windshields. The exception to that is Corning gorilla glass. Get one of those.

And the douche bags with the spacers to extend the tires out past the wheel wells. All the rocks that would hit the wheel wells are now thrown back at people.

Next time I'm near Jennings I may hit you up
Safelite is the only option through my insurance. I'd gladly pay $250 for the good stuff

Same with South Carolina. We don’t have much but by God you can get a free windshield anytime you want one. Still ain’t gonna fix the roads though.

They probably charge insurance $250 and charge private pay $1000

You can find a guy that used to work for one of the big companies that will do it for 40-50% what they charge. I had a Safelite guy several years ago give me the number of one of their former installers that was doing it on his own. Your local mechanic can probably get you in touch with someone.

My current windshield looks terrible. I refuse to replace it bc I’m on the interstate daily.
Something simple to install like a phone screen protector over a windshield would be nice.

Bengal Glass is still in business. Just go early in the morning while everyone else is asleep. That’s right by the railroad tracks that girl got murdered.

The costs of replacement are outrageous. Safelite quoted me $1002.00. 2 others quoted me >$700 before tax. If that is what a windshield costs, they need to make them more durable.
I would say windshields are pretty durable to be made of glass.

mine has several cross windshield cracks and tons of chips. None are in my field of vision, so I'm rolling with it until one gets in my view. It's been almost 10 years since the first chip happened.

Chrysler Jeep conned me into getting some coating called Permaplate a few years back that I didn't realize gave me extra coverage. Well, they noticed a chip at my last tune-up and got me a new windshield for no charge. So, I think it paid off in the end.

^^^This. I lowered my comprehensive deductible to $0 and it was only a few bucks increase in my premium. I do a lot of driving for work and go through a windshield at least every couple of years it seems like.

You 100% have some sensor that needs to be calibrated. Cars are just too complicated. What used to be a $150 fix is now $750+ because of some sensor.
The more I read, the more I think I'll just keep my 2018 running as long as possible. I have zero desire for any vehicle made in the past 5 years. $2,000 headlights and now this crap.
