I won’t replace mine until I must. Have known too many who replace only to get a new crack soon after. State Farm doesn’t cover for free and it falls under deductible.

I cross my fingers every time I get on the interstate. A windshield replacement is a PIA on my old chevy with the wiper door, linkage and trim.

Agree. I have a 2021 GMC Pickup on its fourth windshield counting the original. I spent about $1200 on the first two at Safelite and then went to a local non-chain shop and spent less. Holding my breath until the next rock.

we are replacing them much more frequently compared to any time line going back in my driving years (which started mid 70s)

Daily I see dump trucks with destroyed or missing tarps, just driving down the interstate shooting debris everywhere. Most of them have inadequate mudflaps also.

I also see 18 wheelers with inadequate mudflaps almost daily.

Then you have the dipshit baws towing a piece of equipment like an excavator or skidsteer on a trailer. They didn't both cleaning off the equipment before loading it on the trailer, and they're firing rocks all over the highway.

And the other dipshits with lifted trucks with wheels so offset, there's no way for the bottom of their truck to intercept the rocks flying off before finding your windshield.

Quit driving Aluminum body Fords. Over a ten year (250,000 mile) period I probably replaced the windshield 6-7 times. I have been told the aluminum body flexes which causes the windshield damage to go from a small star to a crack that goes completely across the windshield in a matter of minutes.

Also find someone to replace the windshield without the calibration. In my opinion this is a scam. As previously mentioned replaced the windshield several times without calibration and never noticed a difference.

Here is what is insane. State Farm has a 50 dollar deductible on glass. But the will not pay to fix rock chip. Makes no sense

Local glass place just quoted me $369, which I am happy with. He says calibration is $200-$300 but that 99% of the time it doesnt need calibration.

Any thoughts on not calibrating?

I had my last truck for about a month when I was driving on the I10. Some dude ahead of me was pulling a 10 foot trailer with nothing on it but a cardboard box full of rocks.

It wasn't even a big box. But for some reason he had it strapped to the trailer instead of the bed of his truck.

And the box was open. No top. So every little bump he hit, rocks were flying everywhere.

Once I realized what he was doing, I got into another lane. As I was changing lanes, I heard the POP of a rock hitting the windshield. I pulled on side of him, and it was some Mexican dude playing on his phone paying very little attention to the fact he was driving.

I didn't see a crack or chip, so I thought I dodged a bullet.

That evening when I left work, I finally noticed the chip and a crack running the entire height of the windshield.

Cost me $300 to replace it.

I should have run that dude off the road, pulled him out of his truck, and beat the shite out of him.

God y'all are dumb. It's not free. There is no deductible in FL for windshields. You still take a ding on your insurance for a comprehensive claim.

All three of my vehicles have cracked windows in CO. My Silverado is a spiderweb of cracks and it was damaged a week after being replaced. Done with it.

I say this every time I replace mine and immediately get another hit. Why has technology not improved yet? We have self-driving cars...
