Women on college football sports talk on Sirius XM are the worst. Inserting personal anecdotes that no one cares about (kids; movies; weddings; Taylor Swift) while pretending to know about a sport they never played. Obnoxious and shrill.

If it is a sport that a woman can play…golf for example maaaaaaaaybe. But a woman commentator for football, baseball, and even (real) basketball. Nah. They can’t relate to it so why should they have a platform to talk about it.
I mean hearing Beth talk about the cover two defense…that’s a no for me dog.

Their voices are grating and we all know why they're there. Do we have a token male announcer for many women's sporting events, including the WNBA?

Elinore Penna (nee Kaine) was the pioneer in women broadcasting in the NFL. She was married to the famous horse trainer and a natural athlete. Tennis, golf, riding were her sports but but she was no jock sniffer. She knew her sports far better than many men of her era.
Sadly, the NFL, like news broadcasting in general, swapped journalists for talking heads and attractiveness became more important than content. All the old sports folks I grew up with were no pretty boys, and some were downright homely. They gave good coverage tho.
We traded an Elinore Kaine for a Phyllis George. We traded Howard Cosell for some pretty boy that looks good on TV.

It's not a televised commentator thing, but I listen to the NFL Network on Sirius while I commute. I like the shows they have because it's always ex-players, coaches and GMs breaking down games, team and front office strategies.
Every once in a while they'll sub in a couple of women to lead the shows. I immediately turn it off if they are on. I tried to listen a couple time but they only talk about surface stuff and the insight and insider detail I'm looking for is completely gone. Or worse, they derail the conversation into some superficial crap when folks with real experience start going into detail.

The nagging voice of a female on my TV while I'm trying to watch a football game can only be compared to a knife stabbing into my eardrums.

The vast majority of commentators, male or female, are atrocious, even the "A Team" ones for the major networks.

How do you think the coaches feel? Anxious to get into the locker room and talk to his players and other coaches but is interrupted by some stupid questions he must answer.

I read Howard Cosell's book decades back, he abhored the monopoly that jocks had on sports television - referring to it as the jockocracy - to him sports was not rocket science and the idea that you had to have played the game to comment intelligently on it was ridiculous. Of course Cosell came across in this book as very, very egotistical - because he was.
But there are nuances to this discussion, there are analysts and there are play-by-play folks, sideline reporters, betting personalities and other nitch categories that you can't evaluate the same.
As I said earlier, most play-by-play guys in most sports never played the game either so to say a woman can't do it because she never played it - in that instance is a bit disingenuous.
