Portsmouth New Hampshire is nice, plus you get the SIG HQ and live free or die motto
Traverse City Michigan and the leelanau peninsula still top my list
Lacrosse Wisconsin s another good one
Ooh, love Big Fork Montana - could live there forever

And the fog doesn't burn off till noon-1:00 most days and the cheapest house for sale on Zillow was $3.35M.

Portmouth, NH. or Beaufort, SC. would be two.
Savannah GA and Charleston aren't small, but they have that feel too.

Grand Marais MN. Fishing and logging town on the shore of Lake Superior just below the Canadian border. Easy access to Isle Royale.
Anywhere on the Leelanau Peninsula is also great, but I'd move back to Northern Minnesota in a heartbeat

If you could settle for marsh gas & shrimp heads instead of apples and leaves, Delacroix is really lovely this time of year.
