People keep saying this but the mongols and communist revolutions and purges are the largest mass killings in recorded history. The mongols were completely religiously tolerant as long as you paid your taxes and prayed for the great khan. Communism was atheistic and specifically a-religious.
What did both of these fight over? Power. More wars have been fought to increase power by one group or reduce power by another.
