I keep a Halo jump pack in the boot of my MINI or I can push start it, it's a six speed stick shift. $250 for a battery, nah.

And frick an AGM battery. 350-400 for a battery hurts

My AGM batteries last for 6-8 years and I stress them much more than the average driver.
I just replaced one that lasted for 7 years & 2 months in my 4R
Paid 320.00 and replaced it last month for 330.00 with a NAPA coupon
The wonderful thing about AGM's is they don't fail immediately like normal batteries. They give you months of warning so you're not left stranded.
I run group 34 & 31 Odyssey batteries

You paid this a-hole twice the price of a battery to undo two screws.

I change my own batteries also but batteries in newer vehicles are a pain in the arse to change. GM trucks and full size SUV’s they moved it back near the firewall and it sucks removing them.

Secondly battery clamps do not use screws. Not on the posts and not on the base. Those are called bolts

But anyway, the guy comes out with his diagnostic sheet showing all the test they did.

This kind of stuff generally turns me off.

I know it's a "friendly service" but they will always find something else...always.

Did they come back with the flush and fill the brake lines or power steering?

When the mechanic bridges the terminals with a wire coat hanger, they “go bad” real fast.

They usually want to change the cabin air filter too.

Well, what they do to test a battery is put a hell of an instantaneous load on it and see how it reacts. It;s at least plausible that the battery was very weak to start with and when the put the load test on it that pulled it down. Without the alternator running, it wouldn’t have recharged.

So, what you are saying makes some sense to me. Last time I bought a battery it was $200, so that’s in line as well. Just be glad it didn’t suddenly go out in a restaurant parking lot like mine did.

No it wasn’t.

Tire shops can’t make much money on tires so they need to find ways to do repairs. This is from a tire shop manager.

It's possible that they left it on during the 2 1/2 hour tire change and that killed the battery.

This.

AGM's are great.

Lithium's are too, but too much sugar for a dime.

It’s stories like this that make me glad I bought the battery maintenance plan from my dealer for my car. I get a new battery every three years, no questions asked. It’s peace of mind for less than a dollar a day.
