I believe there are only 3-4 companies that make refrigerators, they just have a number of different brands.
I have a S/S French door maytag I bought at lowes for cheap
3 years ago no problems.

Ice makers being mechanical, are typically the weakest link in any refrigerator.
I have a large LG new fridge and the entire ice maker is a bad design. Very small bin and the ice clogs up a lot. Other than making one or two drinks, its useless.
The freezer iced up a few times on me as well. I would not go with a LG in the future..

I've replaced all three computer boards on my Whirlpool. A relatives Whirlpool is on the same path.

We have a 50's vintage refrigerator,a GE, that still works and is the go to refrigerator for cold drinks.

I think I lean toward a Fridgidaire GE, Kenmore or Whirlpool and avoid LG or Samsung.

That was my thinking as well. Bought a Kenmore Elite 3 years ago from Sears. Compressor went out 5 days ago.

Agree. That's what we thought we did when we bought the Kenmore. But in calling repairmen to find someone to fix it, they all said "that's an LG. We don't work on those".
Moral of the story: just because it says one thing on the front of the fridge, that doesn't mean that is what's underneath. Do your homework.

Purchased a stainless side by side Whirlpool 6 years ago. Runs quiet and zero problems.

are you a 13 year old girl? What does this mean?
I'm still a huge fan of Maytag in terms of reliability even though they're not the "sexy" type brand like samsung. If an appliance company makes personal electronics like phones, I try to stay away as a rule of thumb.

To anyone saying that a Samsung icemaker repair is easy, you couldn't be more wrong!!!!
He should check out YouTube and try and repair it.

Remodeled the house back in 07. Wife bought a fridgeadare (msp) single door. Later wanted a two door with ice maker/water dispenser in the front. Local sears store had an elite for 3500.00. After a few months had it marked down for 2800.00. Year later for 2100.00. Bought it without extended warranty. Crapped out 4 years later. Repairman said it was made by LG. Rolling with whirlpool now.

I’ve got a 30 year old sub zero.
If it breaks tomorrow, I go with another.

But a new icemaker for $100 and save the $1300.
People are afraid of repairs. The only appliances it's rarely worth repairing is the microwave and sometimes the dishwasher. Unless it's the compressor it's almost always much cheaper to fix.
I usually tell the customer to buy new I'd the repair is greater than 40% of replacement. Unless the unit is an old washer, dryer or pre-2004 fridge then I'd put up to 100% of original price into repair.
You'll never buy a good new washer or fridge again.

I bought my Whirlpool fridge in 2001 and it still kicks arse. Except for the crushed ice- my YouTube fix failed and I don’t really care.

I got a 1997 sub zero. The control timer is $30 compared to the $1200 in control boards in the new ones.
The compressors are simple to access. Repairs aren't bad.
They used to be billed as lifetime fridges and I see them often in nice older houses still running R12.
