Belgian Tervuren

quote:
The Terv is a charmer, noted for his intelligence, elegance, alertness, and sense of humor. He stands his ground in the face of strangers, sure of his ability to protect his people and property. With his own family, he's affectionate and demanding of their time and attention. This is a dog who loves to be doing things with you.
The Belgian Tervuren combines the beauty and grace of a show dog, the love, loyalty, and temperament of a companion dog, and the energy, athleticism, and intelligence of a herding dog to create a breed that can truly do it all.

I have a 6 month old German shepard and he is way smarter than other dogs Ive had (chocolate lab, yellow lab, border collie). Seems like he always understands what im trying to do or say although he is a bit hardheaded at times

Boxer
Look at local rescues by breed to see what is available (example: LA Boxer Rescue or TX Boxer Rescue)

Brittany Spaniel has been my favorite dog I've ever had. No real shedding problems, loyal as can be, was very easy to train. Energetic dog, so will definitely need some room to run around, but can also keep itself entertained.

This really depends on your lifestyle and how much time you can spend with it. Not only things like do you live in an apartment or have a house with a fenced in yard, but also do you have time to properly train it or should you get a rescue dog that's already housebroken. If you work all day I wouldn't plan on getting a dog that wasn't already housebroken.
You might find a site like this listing characteristics of the different breeds useful LINK

English Labs
my next dog
Let me know. I got this one from a breeder in Kansas. Top notch dogs. This one is the smartest lab Ive ever owned.

I have had Labs, Boxer, German Sheppard (mix), Old English Sheep Dog (Sweetest but the smelliest Oh LAWD Stink)and a big Poodle mix. Right now I have a mutt (Chihuahua/Rat Terrier). Out of all the dogs I have had the Chihuahua/Rat Terrier is the best. Smarter than all the rest combined. The only thing is he sheds like a dog 10x his size. He is about 18 pounds laid back but when food is involved he gets real active. The Boxer was a beautiful dog (not the real smashed face). He didn't smell or shed but was VERY HYPER and hardheaded.

It all depends on what you want in a dog and your living situation. If you live in an apartment you don't want to get a hyper breed that needs to get out and run around..
Collies are good dogs. They are a loyal breed. I had a sheltie when I was a kid, which are miniature collies and it was a good dog. He did shed a lot. I like Weimaraners, but they need to get out and run. They have a lot of energy.
Labs are great dogs of course, but if you want a good healthy dog. Get a mutt. Mutts are underrated.
